British athletes Amy Hunt and Dina Asher-Smith made European Championships history in Birmingham on 16 August. Amy Hunt became the first athlete to win four gold medals at a single tournament, while Dina Asher-Smith became the most decorated competitor in the competition\u2019s 92-year history.<\/p>\n
The 24-year-old Amy Hunt concluded her campaign with Great Britain\u2019s victory in the mixed 4\u00d7100-metre relay. The team covered the distance in 39.97 seconds, setting a European Championships record. This success added to her victories in the 100 and 200 metres, as well as the women\u2019s 4\u00d7100-metre relay.<\/p>\n

Dina Asher-Smith competed in the mixed relay alongside Jeremiah Azu and Zharnel Hughes. Following this victory, she had eight European Championships gold medals and 11 medals overall. The British team dominated the sprint events on the final evening of the tournament.<\/p>\n
Great Britain won nine gold medals<\/p>\n
Georgia Hunter Bell claimed another gold for the hosts in the 1500 metres. The 32-year-old athlete has already won world indoor and Commonwealth titles this season. She previously stepped away from the sport for five years before successfully returning to competition.<\/p>\n
Georgia Hunter Bell secured Great Britain\u2019s ninth gold medal, but it was not enough to take first place in the medal table. Italy won the standings after claiming the final gold of the championships in the men\u2019s 4\u00d7400-metre relay. The Italians beat the British by just 0.03 seconds.<\/p>\n
Matthew Hudson-Smith won silver in that relay and, with nine medals, became the most decorated man in European Championships history. He surpassed French sprinter Christophe Lemaitre.<\/p>\n

Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis became European champion for the fourth consecutive time. He cleared 6.15 metres, surpassing his own championship record.<\/p>\n
The victory confirmed the dominance of the world record holder in the event. Before the European Championships, Armand Duplantis suffered a rare defeat at the Diamond League meeting in Stockholm in June and missed the Diamond League competition in London in July.<\/p>\n
