<\/a>Russia says it has captured two more settlements in Ukraine<\/p>\n

The Russian defence ministry has claimed that its forces have captured two settlements in Ukraine\u2019s Donetsk region. <\/p>\n

Roughly 80 per cent of the eastern territory, including the major cities and the port of Mariupol, is currently occupied or controlled by Russia.<\/p>\n

Russia’s Foreign Ministry \u2060has said it \u2060\u201dstrongly \u200bprotested\u201d \u2060to the state\u2019s Japanese \u2060ambassador \u2060over what \u200cit called \u201canti-Russian\u201d \u200cremarks by \u200cPrime Minister Sanae \u2060Takaichi regarding a group of Russian-controlled \u200cislands \u200boff \u200cJapan\u2019s coast. <\/p>\n

The disputed territory consists of the four islands closest to Japan which were seized by the Soviet Union at the end of the second world war. <\/p>\n

In recent years, Russia has bolstered its military presence on the isles, which sit between the Sea of Okhotsk and the Pacific Ocean. <\/p>\n

Control of the islands gives Russia a military edge, providing Moscow with year-round access to the Pacific for its fleet based in Vladivostok, because the strait between the southern islands does not freeze in winter.<\/p>\n

President Zelensky has said that Ukraine \u201cwill definitely respond \u200cto this Russian strike,” \u200creferring to a an attack which killed 10 people in Kharkiv on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n

In a post on X, the leader added that the \u201cbrutal\u201d strike was in a residential area, sharing photos of the damage. <\/p>\n

<\/a>Ukraine announces new T40 drone<\/p>\n

The Ukrainian ministry of defence has codified a new precision-strike drone, capable of reaching Siberia.<\/p>\n

The Dovbush T40 drone is an unmanned aircraft described to have one of the highest rates of effectiveness by the Ukrainian ministry of defence.<\/p>\n

In a post on X, ministry officials said that the new drone highlights the growth of Ukraine\u2019s long-range military capabilities.<\/p>\n

<\/a>The UK will ‘pay the price’ for supporting Ukraine, warns Russia<\/p>\n

“London’s actions will inevitably carry consequences for which it will have to answer,” the Russian embassy has said in a statement posted on its Telegram channel. <\/p>\n

“The deeper its involvement in \u200bthe \u2060conflict and the \u200cgreater its support for Kiev’s terrorist machinery, the higher the price it will pay.”<\/p>\n

The comments come after the publication of a previously-reported on Sunday Times article that states British-built drones were used for long-range strikes against Russia for the first time on Tuesday. <\/p>\n

In June, Britain had pledged to provide 150,000 drones to Ukraine by the end of 2026 as part of a \u00a3752 million ($996 million) funding package. <\/p>\n

A Russian missile attack has killed 10 people and injured a further eight in a village in Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region, the regional governor said on Tuesday. <\/p>\n

The strike on \u200cthe village \u200cof Pechenihy has damaged \u206010 private buildings, a cafe, a post office, a shop and at \u200cleast seven cars, residents have told Reuters.<\/p>\n
