Yet thanks to its 3245mm wheelbase, the range-topping GV90 Neolun measures up at a Rolls-Royce Cullinan-rivalling 5.3 metres. Upon arrival, this will make it Europe’s longest EV.

Set to go on sale in South Korea later this week, the GV90 Neolun ditches the SWB’s conventional door configuration and introduces rear-hinged doors, which once again echo the Cullinan.

Yet unlike the Rolls-Royce, the BMW i3, the Mazda MX-30 and anything else with ‘coach’ doors, the B-pillar is integrated into the door, allowing for a huge, unbroken opening when both front and rear doors are open. Instead of altering the door and the B-pillar’s strength, the GV90’s body shell has been reinforced to compensate.

Genesis GV90 interior design

Genesis’s parent company, Hyundai, isn’t tight on standard equipment. The GV90 is no exception. The tiered dashboard is a first for Genesis, and despite being largely minimalist, there is a smattering of physical switchgear for volume controls, shortcuts, and side doors on top-tier models.

All trim levels come with a 23.6-inch infotainment screen, which sits in the middle of the dashboard. When parked, the screen can rise 90mm from the dash to 24.6 inches. This, Seoul says, is to access the raft of entertainment options while charging.

Ahead of the driver is a 25-inch head-up display for speed, directions, and ADAS alerts. The system will run on Hyundai’s latest Android-based software, but will benefit from its own Genesis-themed appearance.

Noise-cancelling windows and a variety of ambient light settings are standard, as is a 25-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, which boasts a new ‘Virtual Venue’ function replicating the ‘signature acoustics’ of Wembley Arena and Boston Symphony Hall. A six-zone electrochromatic glass roof is an optional extra.

The Neolun, however, takes the luxury up a notch. The second and third rows of seats are swapped out for four, fully rotatable captain’s chairs to create an air of opulence never previously seen on a Genesis. As well as fully heated leather upholstery throughout, the cabin includes a real hardwood floor with underfloor heating, plus elements using cashmere wool and even stone. In this spec, the rear luggage compartment is separated from rear passengers via a glass partition.

Exterior design

The Genesis GV90 is just as striking externally as it is inside. The double-line, diamond-effect headlights run the length of the front end in the shape of the signature Genesis grille. They then wrap around to the side of the car, where they serve as indicators. Around the back, the tail-lights adopt a similar design and are also integrated into the bodywork.

Genesis will offer the GV90 in a variety of colours and wheel designs. However, two-tone finishes are exclusive to Neolun variants. The wheels are from 22 inches to 24 inches, with the latter standard on the Neolun. What’s more, the poshest version comes with a stainless-steel B-pillar to differentiate it from the standard car.

Genesis GV90 range and battery

Given the GV90 tips the scales at a hefty three tonnes, it needs plenty of grunt to haul its girth around. A twin-motor powertrain is standard across the range, and produces 647bhp with 590 pound-feet of torque. Each motor comes with its own limited-slip differential (LSD), which delivers power to each wheel depending on speed, plus road and weather conditions.

Genesis has confirmed a 123.5kWh battery pack with a maximum fast-charging speed of 350kW, promising a 10%-80% top-up time of 22 minutes. Range is said to be a very average 311 miles, which places the GV90 firmly in Range Rover Electric territory.

The GV90 rides on an all-new 800V platform dubbed ‘electric Mobility Prime’ or ‘eMP’, which was developed exclusively for Genesis. While the GV90 is the only eMP-based car to date, it is expected to underpin future models and incorporates features such as multi-chamber air suspension and rear-wheel steering.

News With wooden flooring, a cinema screen, and Rolls-Royce Cullinan-rivalling dimensions, the Genesis GV90 isn’t messing around.
