The White House continues to confuse Rolls-Royce plc with Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.<\/p>\n They pointed to a Rolls-Royce plc investment while talking about rebuilding the auto industry.<\/p>\n Rolls-Royce plc focuses on aviation, defense, and power systems, not ultra-luxury vehicles.<\/p>\n In yet another sign the White House<\/a> has absolutely no idea what they\u2019re talking about, they bragged that \u201cPresident Trump\u2019s trade agenda is rebuilding the American auto industry.\u201d<\/p>\n They pointed to Ford\u2019s recent decision to phase out imports of the Chinese-made Nautilus. As the company announced last week, they\u2019ll produce more Lincolns in the United States starting in 2030.<\/p>\n More: Ford Will Stop Importing Lincoln\u2019s Best-Seller From China And Build More In America<\/a><\/p>\n Lincoln isn\u2019t alone as a number of automakers are moving production stateside<\/a> to avoid hefty tariffs. The government pointed to numerous examples ranging from General Motors and Stellantis to Honda, Toyota, and Mercedes.<\/p>\n The last example is where things go off the rails as they said, \u201cRolls-Royce is investing $75 million to boost engine production at its Aiken, South Carolina facility, and recently completed a $24 million expansion of its Mankato, Minnesota plant.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rolls-Royce plc<\/p>\n While that\u2019s true, this has absolutely nothing to do with the automotive industry. Rolls-Royce plc focuses on civil aviation, defense, and power systems. They\u2019re not connected with Rolls-Royce Motor Cars<\/a> as the two companies split in the 1970s.<\/p>\n As a result, the closest thing to a Rolls-Royce plc car is an Airbus or Boeing taxiing to the runway. That\u2019s not exactly the ultra-luxury vehicle that the Trump Administration had in mind.<\/p>\n
Rolls-Royce plc<\/p>\n Despite this, the White House said \u201cPresident Trump\u2019s America First agenda is scoring a decisive victory over decades of off-shoring. Companies that once chased cheap labor overseas are now pouring capital into U.S. plants \u2014 delivering vehicles Made in America, by American workers, for American consumers.\u201d<\/p>\n This isn\u2019t even the first time the White House has made the same mistake; in January<\/a>, they mentioned a Rolls-Royce plc investment was part of \u201cPresident Trump\u2019s all-out push to Make Driving Great Again.\u201d<\/p>\n While it\u2019s amusing that the White House doesn\u2019t know the difference between Rolls-Royce cars and Rolls-Royce plc, they\u2019re not the only ones as we\u2019ve seen numerous writers and publications make the same mistake over the years. It\u2019s so common that Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has a disclaimer saying it\u2019s a \u201cwholly-owned subsidiary of the BMW Group<\/a> and is a completely separate company from Rolls-Royce plc, the manufacturer of aircraft engines and propulsion systems.\u201d<\/p>\n
