{"id":108538,"date":"2026-08-22T01:50:35","date_gmt":"2026-08-22T01:50:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/108538\/"},"modified":"2026-08-22T01:50:35","modified_gmt":"2026-08-22T01:50:35","slug":"drivers-slammed-for-throwing-bottles-of-urine-at-road-workers-repairing-major-bridge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/108538\/","title":{"rendered":"Drivers slammed for &#8216;throwing bottles of urine&#8217; at road workers repairing major bridge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Highway workers have spoken out after frustrated drivers hurled bottles of urine at them as they were managing traffic on a popular bridge.<\/p>\n<p>Work has been taking place on the Menai Suspension Bridge in North Wales since January as part of the second phase of the refurbishment.<\/p>\n<p>This involves repairing concrete corbels, upgrading lighting, repainting parapets, and inspecting the bearings near the towers.<\/p>\n<p>The second phase of the refurbishment is scheduled to be completed in the spring next year, although delays and restrictions have frustrated locals using the route.<\/p>\n<p>While the bridge has remained open throughout the second phase of the works, any vehicles weighing more than 7.5 tonnes are restricted.<\/p>\n<p>Highways teams have also stated that it may be necessary to close one lane of the Bridge to allow further works to be completed.<\/p>\n<p>UK Highways A55 Ltd, which is carrying out the work, said every step was being taken to minimise disruption.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the BBC, workers have reported that they have faced abuse from drivers when working on the 200-year-old structure.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"b9d02\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"2896565b229e4ac16f4ea9938b6f7e17\" data-rm-shortcode-name=\"rebelmouse-image\" class=\"rm-shortcode rm-lazyloadable-image \" lazy-loadable=\"true\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%201200%20800'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-runner-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/the-menai-suspension-bridge-in-north-wales.jpg\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" alt=\"The Menai Suspension Bridge in North Wales\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The Menai Suspension Bridge in North Wales is undergoing repairs and upgrades <\/p>\n<p> | <\/p>\n<p>GETTY<\/p>\n<p>Workers stated that vehicles have been driven aggressively, drivers have hurled verbal abuse, and there have been reports of bottles being thrown, including one full of urine.<\/p>\n<p>This has prompted a strong response from Deputy Minister for Transport Mark Hooper, who claimed the safety and welfare were the Government&#8217;s &#8220;utmost priority&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>He said: &#8220;The recent behaviour directed at those working on site is completely unacceptable.
