{"id":110037,"date":"2026-08-24T16:58:14","date_gmt":"2026-08-24T16:58:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/110037\/"},"modified":"2026-08-24T16:58:14","modified_gmt":"2026-08-24T16:58:14","slug":"iran-linked-cyberattack-tests-britains-energy-defenses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/110037\/","title":{"rendered":"Iran-Linked Cyberattack Tests Britain\u2019s Energy Defenses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tBy <a href=\"https:\/\/oilprice.com\/contributors\/City-AM\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">City A.M <\/a> &#8211; Aug 24, 2026, 11:00 AM CDT<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t&#13;<br \/>\nAn Iran-linked cyberattack reportedly shut down a small UK energy generator for four days in July.&#13;<br \/>\nUK officials said the affected generator was small and that the incident posed no threat to the wider electricity system or national generation capacity.&#13;<br \/>\nThe attack comes amid broader warnings from the NCSC that hostile states are increasingly targeting UK infrastructure.&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/d32r1sh890xpii.cloudfront.net\/article\/718x300\/2026-08-24_fkln6gj8sr.jpg\" class=\"singleArticle__articleImage\" alt=\"Energy grid\" title=\"Energy grid\"\/><\/p>\n<p>An attack on an energy facility which was shut down for four days last month was carried out by hackers linked to the Iranian regime.<\/p>\n<p>The cyberattack, which is believed to be the first time Iranian-affiliated hackers have successfully infiltrated a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityam.com\/soaring-energy-bills-set-to-fuel-inflation-spike\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">UK energy<\/a> facility, shutting it down.<\/p>\n<p>A government spokesperson for the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) said the energy facility was a \u201csmall scale energy generator.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The spokesperson added that \u201cat no point was there a risk to the wider energy system\u201d or the country\u2019s overall energy generation. It is understood that the site is not critical infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Government officials would not confirm which site was affected but cited national security concerns.
