The distance between members of the Windsor family has been clear in recent years. Still, King Charles III, who continues to undergo cancer treatment, appears to be trying to put back together pieces that once seemed farther apart than ever.<\/p>\n

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex\u2019s return to Britain has revealed the deep bond the king still shares with his son despite their years apart.<\/p>\n

The monarch\u2019s role in the return of the fifth in line to the throne, however, reportedly goes beyond his own relationship with Harry. It also involves Harry\u2019s strained relationship with Prince William.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn time, he\u2019ll want to see his sons together,\u201d a source close to the royal household told People. \u201cThis is the best opportunity we\u2019ve seen in years.\u201d The comments referred to the possibility of Prince William and Prince Harry reconciling.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe King would love to have Harry close,\u201d another source told the publication, reflecting the monarch\u2019s reported desire to spend more time with his son, who stepped back from royal duties in 2020.<\/p>\n

The comment also recalls one of the most personal moments Harry described in his memoir, Spare. Harry wrote that during a tense meeting with his father and Prince William after Prince Philip\u2019s funeral in 2021, Charles stood between his sons and made an emotional plea: \u201cPlease, boys. Don\u2019t make my final years a misery.\u201d<\/p>\n

Those hopes also include Harry and William restoring the close relationship they shared as children. Despite the plea Charles made in 2021, however, the brothers reportedly have had no contact in recent years.<\/p>\n

The king\u2019s wish for reconciliation therefore comes from a place of deep affection, against the painful backdrop of a rift between his two sons.<\/p>\n
