Vacuum brand that promised to roll out a Bugatti copycat and a Rolls-Royce Cullinan-like SUV called it a day before selling a single car. The automotive industry turned out to be way too much for a firm that builds vacuum cleaners.<\/p>\n

Dreame Technology launched in the auto industry with all the bells and whistles of a brand-new auto brand, only that it didn\u2019t have any auto background. It counted, instead, on its expertise in making vacuum cleaners.<\/p>\n

So, it set up a dedicated automotive division in Shanghai, hiring nearly 1,000 engineers to handle research and development. The company showcased its Nebula Next 01 concept at the Consumer Electronics Show and later introduced a rocket-boosted Nebula Jet Edition<\/a> in San Francisco.<\/p>\n

China Economy reports<\/a> that a former employee said the Nebula Next 01 did not have a proper chassis and had to be moved remotely. Furthermore, the Jet Edition was reportedly sourced from a model-making company and subsequently bolted onto a chassis and equipped with thrusters.<\/p>\n

The rocket-powered Jet Edition was intended to be a mind-blowing concept, which promised a 0 to 62 mph (100 kph) time of just 0.9 seconds. There is no production car out there capable of such a time. But Dreame promised to build it and gloriously failed.<\/p>\n

The concept car looked like a mix of a European supercar and a sci-fi vehicle. However, something just didn\u2019t add up. Then, the firm came up with copycats of the Bugatti Chiron and the Rolls-Royce Cullinan<\/a>.<\/p>\n

However, instead of coming up with actual names for these pre-production models, the company divided its vehicles into two distinct luxury sub-brands: the Dreame Automotive division, focused on ultra-luxury, high-performance hypercars, and the Starry Automotive branch, which was supposed to roll out large, ultra-premium family vehicles.<\/p>\n

The first and final model of Dreame Automotive was a four-door electric hyper-sedan that shamelessly mirrored the design of the Bugatti Chiron, while Starry Automotive came up with an SUV concept that unmistakably mimicked the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.<\/p>\n

With copycats of European models, there was no way Dreame Technology could have gone very far, and the automotive division shrank from a peak of nearly 1,000 employees down to just a few dozen staff members tasked with winding down operations and settling debts.<\/p>\n

Car News China reports that CEO Yu Hao has shifted the company\u2019s focus back to its core business lines, such as robotic vacuums, lawnmowers, and two-wheeled electric vehicles, shutting down operations in the auto industry.<\/p>\n
