The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has had a tough time with injuries over the past 12 months and suffered a new problem at the weekend\"James<\/p>\n

James Maddison fractured his shoulder during the Premier League match between Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday<\/p>\n

Tottenham midfielder James Maddison should be back in action within a couple of weeks after suffering a fractured shoulder on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.<\/p>\n

The 29-year-old missed all but the final three matches of the club’s near disastrous season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered during Son Heung-min’s final game for Spurs<\/a> last pre-season. The England international was then unable to play during this summer’s tour to New Zealand and Australia after suffering a little problem that prevented him from training for a week.<\/p>\n

Maddison<\/a> did return to play 45 minutes in the final pre-season match against Hoffenheim at Hotspur Way and then came off the bench in the second half for 25 minutes of Tottenham’s 3-0 defeat at Brentford on Saturday to open their Premier League season. During that cameo appearance the midfielder suffered a slight fracture to his shoulder after falling awkwardly.<\/p>\n

Roberto De Zerbi<\/a> said the player would miss Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup second round clash with Charlton Athletic because of the “small injury”.<\/p>\n

That did not dampen speculation that Maddison was set for another prolonged spell on the sidelines, but football.london understands that he should be back and able to play within a couple of weeks.<\/p>\n

“I’m working so hard to try and be fully fit and available for the majority of the season,” Maddison said in an interview with the BBC last week.<\/p>\n

“I want just a fully fit, healthy season where I can just enjoy football. Because if I’m fully fit and I’m healthy, then I know what I’m capable of. And I know that I can affect games more than a lot of players in this league. So, let’s just hope for that.”<\/p>\n
