Press TV<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n\u201cThe possibility of Iran\u2019s electricity network collapsing does not exist,\u201d Aliabadi said, stressing that the country is capable of producing all the equipment and components required by its power industry domestically.<\/p>\n
He said the resilience of the network stems in part from Iran\u2019s geographical size and the wide distribution of power-generation facilities across the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith more than 1,000 power-generating units across the country, even with the complete exhaustion of the enemy\u2019s arsenal, it is not possible to bring the country\u2019s electricity generation network to a halt,\u201d Aliabadi said.<\/p>\n
The minister noted that Iran\u2019s electricity generation capacity has increased significantly since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, rising from around 7,000 megawatts to more than 103,000 megawatts.<\/p>\n
He added that the power sector had continued to operate and expand even under the most difficult circumstances, including during the recent war.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt the height of the war, none of the power plant projects stopped,\u201d Aliabadi said, adding that new generating units would soon be connected to the national grid.<\/p>\n
Aliabadi also highlighted the capabilities developed by Iran\u2019s water and electricity industries under sanctions, saying the country has continued to manufacture equipment and components domestically while exporting electrical and water-sector equipment to other countries.<\/p>\n
According to the minister, the industry has not only met domestic demand but has also provided products and expertise to neighbouring states and other international markets.<\/p>\n
He praised electricity sector personnel for their efforts during the war, recalling how technical teams and power-line crews responded rapidly to repair damaged infrastructure.<\/p>\n
\u201cImmediately after any damage to the facilities, my colleagues went into action and quickly rebuilt them and restored the network,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Aliabadi cited the response to damage at the Karaj water treatment facility, where workers restored electricity and water supplies despite the release of chlorine gas.<\/p>\n
The minister also accused Iran\u2019s adversaries of violating international norms by targeting critical infrastructure. He pointed to the destruction of a desalination facility on Qeshm Island that supplies drinking water to local residents.<\/p>\n
Despite the damage, operational units of the Energy Ministry repaired affected infrastructure in a short period, including sections of the water network in the Tajrish area that sustained damage over several kilometres, he said.<\/p>\n
Alongside his emphasis on the resilience of the conventional electricity network, Aliabadi outlined plans for a major expansion of renewable energy generation.<\/p>\n
He said Iran\u2019s renewable electricity capacity currently stands at between 5,000 and 6,000 megawatts and is approaching 7,000 megawatts. The government aims to increase that figure to 12,000 megawatts by the end of the year.<\/p>\n
Aliabadi added that the government is targeting 30,000 megawatts of renewable generation capacity by the end of its term.<\/p>\n
Iran has joined the ranks of leading countries in solar power development, he said, while praising President Masoud Pezeshkian for personally overseeing the issue.<\/p>\n
The minister also announced that new wind power plants would come online next year, saying wind generation could complement solar energy because wind activity is generally stronger at night, helping improve grid reserves and stability.<\/p>\n
Aliabadi highlighted the inauguration of Iran\u2019s first geothermal power plant in Meshginshahr, describing the technology as entirely domestically developed and particularly important under wartime conditions.<\/p>\n
He also pointed to a strategy of prioritising smaller renewable energy projects in the initial phase, noting that they require less investment in substations, transmission lines and network expansion while generating electricity close to the point of consumption.<\/p>\n
\u201cGiven the time constraints and the need to compensate for the electricity shortage and reduce fuel consumption, efforts were made to prevent the Energy Ministry from becoming involved in the time-consuming process of developing substations, lines and the network,\u201d Aliabadi said.<\/p>\n
He said the benefits of that approach would become increasingly apparent to the public in the future.<\/p>\n
The minister also said that 10,000 megawatts of new generating capacity was gradually approaching connection to the national grid, adding that following the summer peak in electricity demand, the power system was moving towards more balanced conditions.<\/p>\n
