{"id":111535,"date":"2026-08-26T14:04:11","date_gmt":"2026-08-26T14:04:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/111535\/"},"modified":"2026-08-26T14:04:11","modified_gmt":"2026-08-26T14:04:11","slug":"migrant-crisis-sudanese-man-lay-in-wait-for-lone-woman-before-attacking-her-30-times-with-broken-bottle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/111535\/","title":{"rendered":"Migrant crisis: Sudanese man lay in wait for lone woman before attacking her 30 times with broken bottle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">An illegal migrant from Sudan lay in wait for a lone woman before attacking her 30 times with a broken bottle in Leeds. <\/p>\n<p>Ibrahim Albashir, 34, embarked on the violent rampage in April 2024, targeting his 32-year-old victim as she walked home from a dinner out with friends. <\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, Leeds Crown Court heard how the asylum seeker left Sudan at the age of 25, first breaking into Libya before illegally crossing to Italy.<\/p>\n<p>Albashir then headed to France, where he began smoking cannabis and drinking alcohol.<\/p>\n<p>The 34-year-old stayed in peaceful France for one year &#8211; six months of which was spent inside a mental health unit, where he was diagnosed with catatonic schizophrenia.<\/p>\n<p>Following his release, he was proscribed with anti-psychotic medication and he made his way to Paris. <\/p>\n<p>Albashir subsequently stopped taking his medication and his asylum claim in France was denied. <\/p>\n<p>The 34-year-old then travelled up north to Calais, where he broke into Britain with the help of people-smugglers.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"a58e3\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"a5fa5613af8152f30bf9d60d63735bd2\" data-rm-shortcode-name=\"rebelmouse-image\" class=\"rm-shortcode rm-lazyloadable-image \" lazy-loadable=\"true\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%201600%20900'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-runner-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/ibrahim-albashir.png\" width=\"1600\" height=\"900\" alt=\"Ibrahim Albashir\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Ibrahim Albashir, 34, embarked on the violent rampage in April 2024, targeting a 32-year-old woman as she walked home<\/p>\n<p> | <\/p>\n<p>WEST YORKSHIRE POLICE<\/p>\n<p>After being put up in a hostel in Birmingham, he sexually assaulted a female member of staff after she refused to have sex with him in his room, jurors heard. <\/p>\n<p>When he arrived in Leeds after being kicked off a train due to having no ticket, he was stopped by police in the Woodhouse area after being spotted with his trousers down to his ankles and searched for drugs &#8211; but no further action was taken. <\/p>\n<p>On the evening of March 17, 2024, Albashir launched his violent attack on the lone woman outside the Original Oak pub. <\/p>\n<p>The court was told that the rampage was only brought to a halt after members of the public heard the victim&#8217;s &#8220;blood-curdling screams&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The illegal migrant was then knocked out by a member of the public.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"0d604\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"79ae50c6c52e23d3309012d2408bc96b\" data-rm-shortcode-name=\"rebelmouse-image\" class=\"rm-shortcode rm-lazyloadable-image \" lazy-loadable=\"true\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%201600%20900'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-runner-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/leeds-crown-court.png\" width=\"1600\" height=\"900\" alt=\"Leeds Crown Court\"\/><\/p>\n<p> Leeds Crown Court heard how the asylum seeker left Sudan at the age of 25, travelling to Libya before breaking into Italy<\/p>\n<p> | PA<\/p>\n<p>Following the attack, police officers described him as appearing &#8220;out of it&#8221; and said he appeared to be under the influence of either alcohol or drugs, or both, the court was told. <\/p>\n<p>After pleading guilty to attempted murder in March, the 34-year-old was sentenced to 25 years in prison alongside an indefinite hospital order.<\/p>\n<p>Albashir appeared from a secure mental health unit via video link with the help of an Arabic interpreter, with Judge Robin Mairs telling him: &#8220;I do not accept your self-reporting of amnesia at the time of the offence.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You chose a lone female to attack.
