Iraq is seeking to bring major international pharmaceutical
\ncompanies back to its market, including British drugmaker GSK, Health Minister
\nAbdul Hussein Al-Mousawi announced on Wednesday after talks in the United Arab
\nEmirates.<\/p>\n
The initiative targets firms that left Iraq in recent years,
\naiming to broaden access to medicines and increase competition based on quality
\nand price, according to a Health Ministry statement. Al-Mousawi met
\nrepresentatives of several drugmakers, with discussions focusing particularly
\non cancer treatments and vaccines.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\nmeetings, including talks with GSK over its potential return to the Iraqi market.
\nAl-Mousawi noted that the company\u2019s medicines and vaccines serve around 2.5
\nbillion people worldwide and that it had operated in Iraq for years before
\nwithdrawing.<\/p>\n
\nbut remains reliant on imports. Health Ministry spokesman Saif Al-Badr told
\nShafaq News in November 2025<\/a> that around 40 factories produced more than 650
\nmedicines and medical supplies, covering over 40% of domestic demand.<\/p>\n
