Former Barclays CEO Jes Staley<\/a> described the one sexual encounter he claims he had with an assistant of Jeffrey Epstein as consensual, in an interview with congressional investigators last month.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was an assistant to Jeffrey Epstein<\/a>, and I met her at his townhouse,\u201d Staley told the House Oversight Committee, according to a transcript<\/a> released Wednesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe met and began to have a dialogue and it turned flirtatious. And we met and had one intimate encounter,\u201d the ex-Barclays chief acknowledged.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Staley told the House Oversight Committee that the sexual encounter with Epstein\u2019s assistant was consensual. REUTERS<\/p>\n

Staley<\/a> was brought in by the House panel after the Justice Department\u2019s \u201cEpstein files\u201d showed Staley exchanged some 1,200 communications with Epstein between 2008 and 2012.\u00a0<\/p>\n

At the time, Staley<\/a> was the head of JP Morgan\u2019s Private Bank and Epstein was one of his clients.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Staley was adamant that the sexual encounter with the woman (whose name is redacted in the transcript) was consensual and not set up by Epstein.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The banker claims the woman, who he said was \u201cin her twenties or thirties,\u201d invited him up to her Upper East Side apartment in New York one morning in 2009 or 2010.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI think we talked. I believe we were sitting on her couch together while we talked. And one thing led to another and we had an intimate engagement,\u201d Staley testified.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cMy recollection is, she invited me into her bedroom,\u201d he said when pressed about how he knew the encounter was consensual.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Staley claimed the woman invited him over \u201cmonths after\u201d they first met at Epstein\u2019s residence, and that they crossed paths up to a dozen times before and after, but only had the one sexual encounter \u2013 which he said he never told Epstein about.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The ex-Barclays chief said he was not aware if Epstein had ever instructed women to have sex with his associates.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Staley said he first met Epstein in 2001. <\/p>\n

When informed by an investigator that the woman had \u201csued Mr. Epstein for sexual abuse and settled with his estate,\u201d Staley indicated that he had no knowledge of Epstein having ever abused his assistants.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

The House panel also grilled Staley about whether he had ever seen a woman dressed as Snow White at Epstein\u2019s residence or had sex with a woman in the Disney character costume.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Staley insisted that he did not recall ever seeing a woman in a Snow White costume at Epstein\u2019s place and was adamant that he did not have sex with a woman in such an outfit.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The files released by the DOJ show that Staley wrote to Epstein on July 9, 2010<\/a>: \u201cMaybe they\u2019re tracking u?? That was fun. Say hi to Snow White.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c[W]hat character would you like next?\u201d asked Epstein in response the following day<\/p>\n

\u201cBeauty and the Beast,\u201d Staley said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Staley said he never told Epstein about the encounter. REUTERS<\/p>\n

To which Epstein replied, \u201cwell one side is available.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another unidentified person emailed Epstein on July 10, 2010<\/a>: \u201cthe snow white was f..ed twice as soon as she put her costume.\u201d<\/p>\n

During his appearance before the committee, the transcript shows investigators provided Staley with a photograph Epstein emailed to a redacted name on July 11th, 2010 of a young woman in a Snow White costume.<\/p>\n
