London Mayor Sadiq Khan announced a fresh investment of \u00a3875,000 through City Hall\u2019s Shared Endeavor Fund to tackle antisemitism<\/a>, anti-Muslim hatred, and extremism across the capital on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The funding announcement, released via an official City Hall press statement, comes in response to a sharp rise in reported hate incidents. According to tracking data released by the Community Security Trust (CST) and cited in the announcement, Greater London recorded 994 antisemitic<\/a> hate crimes in the first half of 2026, marking a 24% increase from the 800 incidents reported over the same period in 2025. Concurrently, anti-Muslim prejudice reports have surged, with Tell Mama data showing that reports are running at roughly twice the rate seen in 2023.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s absolutely no place for hate crime in our capital, and I\u2019m committed to working with partners to help tackle this scourge,\u201d Khan stated in the press release on Tuesday. \u201cAs the disgusting attacks on London\u2019s Jewish and Muslim communities<\/a> have shown and rising rates of antisemitism and anti-Muslim hate in the capital, there is a small minority who continue to use the ongoing conflict in the Middle East to sow seeds of division. They will never prevail, and Londoners will always be united against these malicious acts of hatred.\u201d<\/p>\n

Initiative involves Jewish, Muslim community groups<\/p>\n

The new allocation brings the mayor\u2019s total investment in hate crime and extremism initiatives to \u00a317 million since 2016. The latest round of funding will support 17 grassroots organizations delivering educational workshops and training across all 32 London boroughs. City Hall emphasized the strategic focus on education by stating in the release that \u201cthe only long-term solution to hate and extremism is prevention work,\u201d explaining that the funding backs organizations dedicated to \u201cpreventing radicalization and helping young people identify and challenge hateful and extremist content online, while protecting young Londoners vulnerable to extremism.\u201d<\/p>\n

Among the beneficiaries highlighted in the announcement is Stand Up! Education Against Discrimination, an interfaith initiative jointly run by the CST<\/a> and Tell Mama, which dispatches jointly trained Jewish and Muslim facilitators into classrooms. Other supported groups include Thoughtful, which provides teacher training to help educators address intolerance and extremism, and Tech Against Terrorism, which equips students to recognize online misinformation and extremist narratives.<\/p>\n

In response to the initiative, security and community leaders emphasized the growing threat of youth radicalization. Commenting on the announcement in a City Hall press release on Tuesday, Commander Helen Flanagan, head of Counter Terrorism Policing in London, stated, \u201cThe scale and complexity of the radicalization threat facing children and young people is deeply concerning. Record numbers of children are becoming involved in our casework, with online platforms and emerging technologies providing extremists with new opportunities to reach and influence those who are vulnerable to radicalization.\u201d<\/p>\n

Similarly, Charlotte Argan, manager of Stand Up! Education Against Discrimination, noted in a statement on Tuesday that rising antisemitism and anti-Muslim hatred were creating a \u201csignificant challenge\u201d for London, adding, \u201cYoung people are increasingly exposed to extremist ideologies, conspiracy theories, and misinformation online. In this rapidly changing environment, the need for the Shared Endeavor Fund\u2019s support for grassroots educational initiatives like ours has never been greater, enabling us to equip young Londoners with the knowledge, confidence, and skills to recognize, challenge, and reject extremism wherever they encounter it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA) was skeptical of the initiative. A spokesperson for CAA told The Jerusalem Post, \u201cThere is very little detail available on what these projects will do. As the UK\u2019s leading charity campaigning against antisemitism, we regret that we have had very little engagement with the mayor.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has not attended or sent representatives to our major marches against antisemitism, and some of his interventions \u2013 such as his repetition of the \u2018genocide\u2019 lie \u2013 cannot exactly be said to assist in this project\u2019s stated aim of combating radicalization, division, and extreme ideologies.
