{"id":112164,"date":"2026-08-27T11:25:12","date_gmt":"2026-08-27T11:25:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/112164\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T11:25:12","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T11:25:12","slug":"laing-orourke-appointed-for-north-west-london-substation-upgrades","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/112164\/","title":{"rendered":"Laing O\u2019Rourke appointed for North West London substation upgrades"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Laing O\u2019Rourke has been appointed by National Grid to upgrade substations at Letchmore Heath, Elstree and St Johns Wood as part of the North West London Upgrade.<\/p>\n<p>The work is intended to strengthen the electricity network across North West London and surrounding areas by improving the resilience of the existing transmission network and increasing its capacity.<\/p>\n<p>The latest scheme will involve modifications to 400kV equipment and the installation and relocation of National Grid assets at both substations.<\/p>\n<p>The upgrades will also support the transmission of increased offshore energy production as part of the government\u2019s Clean Power 2030 action plan, while providing resilient power supplies for London and future data centres in the region.<\/p>\n<p>The design and construction work is part of the Letchmore Heath substation project, which Laing O\u2019Rourke began delivering in March 2025.\u00a0The contractor was appointed as a construction partner to the Great Grid Upgrade in 2024 and has also been appointed as a construction partner for the Wimbledon Asset Replacement and Margam and Port Talbot substations.<\/p>\n<p>Laing O\u2019Rourke\u00a0Europe Hub\u00a0managing director\u00a0Peter Lyons said: \u201cThis work builds on Laing O\u2019Rourke\u2019s partnership with National Grid, having been appointed as construction partner to the Great Grid Upgrade, Wimbledon Asset Replacement, and Margam and Port Talbot substations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will be\u202futilising\u202four digital tools to enable our teams to deliver safely and\u202fefficiently\u202fon site.
