United States<\/a>\u00a0alone.\u00a0<\/p>\nThis new drug is a monoclonal antibody that works by blocking an\u00a0inflammation-triggering protein known as TSLP\u00a0in the\u00a0early inflammation campaign, helping to ward off\u00a0in conditions\u00a0\u200bdriven by eosinophils\u00a0as well as severe asthma.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Already approved in\u00a0a number of\u00a0countries as an add-on treatment for severe asthma,\u00a0tezepelumab-ekko\u00a0has an advantage over other drugs due to its\u00a0four-week\u00a0dosing interval and effectiveness in\u00a0treating epithelial-driven inflammatory diseases, according to\u00a0AstraZeneca.\u00a0<\/p>\n
It generated $1.13bn in sales for AstraZeneca in 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Focus after failure<\/p>\n
Despite the\u00a0promising\u00a0outcome of the trial, investors\u00a0remain\u00a0focussed on the upcoming results of two cancer trials which are seen as\u00a0more supportive\u00a0of the company\u2019s growth prospects and set target to reach\u00a0$80bn in sales by 2030.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The positive news\u00a0also\u00a0comes after a series of setbacks for the Cambridge-based company that saw both cancer drug\u00a0Wainua\u00a0(eplontersen), and\u00a0Ultomiris\u00a0(ravulizumab-cwvz)\u00a0for rare blood and autoimmune diseases, unexpectedly fail late-stage trials.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
In May, a US regulatory panel rejected its breast cancer drug\u00a0camizestrant\u00a0on the grounds that it had concerns over the trial design, which prompted a 2.5% drop in share price.\u00a0<\/p>\n
AstraZeneca\u00a0also made the decision to halt a late-stage trial of\u00a0volrustomig, an experimental lung cancer drug, this month after a committee overseeing the trial concluded it was unlikely to meet its primary goals.\u00a0<\/p>\n
As of the most\u00a0recent news, shares remained down\u00a0by\u00a00.6% on Thursday\u00a0morning, having fallen 14% since\u00a0Wainua\u2019s\u00a0trial failure.\u00a0<\/p>\n
