{"id":112658,"date":"2026-08-28T04:37:20","date_gmt":"2026-08-28T04:37:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/112658\/"},"modified":"2026-08-28T04:37:20","modified_gmt":"2026-08-28T04:37:20","slug":"gsk-shares-drift-despite-drug-approvals-boost","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/112658\/","title":{"rendered":"GSK shares drift despite drug approvals boost"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"author-section byline-plain\">By DAILY MAIL CITY &amp; FINANCE <\/p>\n<p class=\"byline-section\"> Updated:  08:06 BST, 25 August 2026   <\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Drugs giant GSK saw its shares drift lower despite announcing progress on two key products yesterday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/investing.thisismoney.co.uk\/quote\/UKX\" id=\"mol-b792ce10-a052-11f1-8019-b342824b5527\">FTSE 100<\/a> firm said its experimental chronic hepatitis B drug bepirovirsen, branded Hibsago, had been approved in Japan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">GSK said the approval was based on late-stage studies showing it helped nearly one in five patients achieve a cure and raised hopes of a treatment course providing an alternative to lifelong antiviral pills.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">It said the disease is \u2018a major public health challenge and a leading cause of liver cancer globally\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>   <img decoding=\"async\" id=\"i-ea1df8deba5aee9f\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/110833877-16077673-image-a-1_1787641147756.jpg\" height=\"426\" width=\"634\" alt=\"\" class=\"blkBorder img-share\" style=\"max-width:100%\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>   <\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">In Japan, nearly one million people live with the illness and it contributes to around 4,000 deaths annually, GSK said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The firm has predicted bepirovirsen could bring in over \u00a32bn in peak annual sales, taking it closer to its annual revenue target of more than \u00a340bn.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Separately, GSK said the US Food and Drug Administration will conduct a priority review of dostarlimab, marketed as Jemperli, as a potential treatment for a type of rectal cancer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">However, shares fell 1.5 per cent.
