Rolls-Royce has completed a decade-long, $1 billion investment in its Indiana manufacturing, assembly and testing operations and added new aerospace and defense engine-testing infrastructure, marking the largest investment the company has made in the United States.<\/p>\n
According to Rolls-Royce, the investment modernized advanced manufacturing capabilities across the company’s Indianapolis campus and added new engine-testing infrastructure, including ground-test facilities and an altitude test facility in West Lafayette, Ind.<\/p>\n
The company said the upgrades strengthen its role within the U.S. defense industrial base and expand support for current and future military propulsion programs.<\/p>\n
More Rolls-Royce defense products are now built in Indianapolis than anywhere else in the world, the company says. The campus manufactures and tests engines for a range of defense and commercial applications, including future propulsion systems for the U.S. Air Force’s B-52 bomber and the U.S. Army’s MV-75 Cheyenne, as well as engines for the V-22 Osprey, MQ-25A Stingray and C-130J.<\/p>\n
“This billion-dollar investment is about more than buildings and test cells. It is about delivering for the American warfighter, on time and at the standard our customers expect,” Adam Riddle, president of Rolls Royce’s defense division, and CEO of Rolls Royce North America, said in a press release<\/a>. “We made this investment because it was the right thing to do for U.S. national security and for the future of Rolls-Royce.”<\/p>\n Indiana Gov. Mike Braun said the investment reflects confidence in the state’s manufacturing workforce.<\/p>\n “Rolls-Royce has called Indiana home for three decades, and this billion-dollar investment is a vote of confidence in Hoosier workers and our state,” Braun said. “Advanced manufacturing like this is exactly what keeps Indiana’s economy strong and growing.”<\/p>\n Rolls-Royce employs approximately 3,500 people in Indianapolis and supports thousands more jobs through its Indiana supply chain. The campus also houses LibertyWorks, the company’s advanced research organization, which conducts work on propulsion technologies and high-temperature materials and maintains a $75 million, 10-year research alliance with Purdue University.<\/p>\n Rolls-Royce says that over the past 10 years, Rolls-Royce has invested more than $1.5 billion in facilities and nearly $2.5 billion in research and development across the United States.
