A BMW driver who killed a father by driving into him before telling a tissues of lies to police has been jailed for life.<\/p>\n

Lee Baker was walking with his brother along Ormscliffe Road, Rednal,<\/a> around 5.10pm on July 21, 2025, when Michael Povey deliberately drove his powerful motor into the pair.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, Lee\u2019s brother managed to jump out of the way but Lee, 28, suffered traumatic head injuries and died.<\/a><\/p>\n

Povey, 29, mounted the pavement and hit a front garden wall before running off to avoid capture.<\/p>\n

It was then that his lies began as he called 999 claiming that his car had been stolen by a \u201cyob\u201d and that he was \u201cscared to go back around as someone had been hurt\u201d.<\/p>\n

West Midlands Police<\/a> discovered that Lee and his twin brother, had been walking along Ormscliffe Road, following an argument with three other men.<\/p>\n

Unbeknownst to them, Povey had heard about the disagreement and was intent on finding the pair.<\/p>\n

Only minutes after running over Lee, Povey walked past the scene of his crime without the high visibility vest he was wearing.<\/p>\n

Povey, of no fixed address, was found guilty of murder on 6 February and had pled guilty to perverting the course of public justice.<\/p>\n

Appearing at Birmingham<\/a> Crown Court on Friday (10 April) he was sentenced to a life imprisonment with a minimum sentence of 20 years.<\/p>\n

In tribute to Lee, his family said: \u201cWe know Lee has gone and we would love to see him or hold him just one more time, but we can\u2019t.<\/p>\n
