During that time, Harry spoke often of his reluctance to bring Meghan and their children, Archie and Lilibet, back to the U.K. due to security concerns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Now that they are back living in his home country, Harry is reportedly re-pleading his case for armed security.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">The Sunday Times <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/uk\/royal-family\/article\/prince-harry-security-al-qaeda-threat-p37rp977v\" target=\"_blank\" dir=\"ltr\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">reported<\/a> over the weekend that Harry wrote to the U.K. government&#8217;s minister in charge of police to ask for more protection.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">In the letter, which ABC News has not independently verified, Harry alleged that RAVEC, which handles police protection details, did not warn him of a possible Al Qaeda threat against him in 2023, according to the Times&#8217; reporting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">ABC News has reached out to a spokesperson for Harry for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Neither Harry nor Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace &#8212; Charles&#8217; and William&#8217;s respective offices &#8212; have commented on the Sussexes&#8217; move to the U.K.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"hsDdd NDJZt sJeUN IJwXl vBqtr KrDt itslR zFTjo hakZw HlUVI \" data-testid=\"prism-image\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/diana-gty-er-260831_1788204066669_hpMain.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Diana, Princess of Wales, with her son Prince Harry during a holiday with the Spanish royal family at the Marivent Palace in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, August 1987.<\/p>\n<p>Terry Fincher\/Princess Diana Archive\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">The questions surrounding security for Harry&#8217;s family come as the world marks the 29th anniversary of the death of Harry&#8217;s mother, <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/www.goodmorningamerica.com\/culture\/story\/princess-dianas-brother-charles-places-flowers-burial-site-125143119\" target=\"_blank\" dir=\"ltr\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Princess Diana<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">The Sussexes&#8217; current security situation is similar to that of Diana,\u00a0who had to rely on private security protection after her divorce from Harry&#8217;s father, Charles, in 1996.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">The following year, on Aug. 31, 1997, Diana died in a car crash at the age of 36 while being pursued by paparazzi in Paris.\u00a0Harry was just 12 at the time of his mother&#8217;s death, while William was 15.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Harry has said previously that some of his tensions with his father and brother stem from what he sees as their role in his family&#8217;s security being taken away.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">&#8220;I was stunned that my family would allow security to be taken away, especially at the most vulnerable point for us,&#8221; Harry <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.com\/GMA\/Culture\/prince-harry-opens-rift-royal-family-return-royal\/story?id=96242779\" target=\"_blank\" dir=\"ltr\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">told<\/a> ABC News&#8217; Michael Strahan in a 2023 interview about his memoir &#8220;Spare.&#8221; &#8220;And maybe they didn&#8217;t understand the concerns that I had.
