Shares in\u00a0Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LSE:RKT, OTCQX:RBGLY)<\/a>, the consumer goods company<\/a> behind Dettol and Nurofen, rose over 4% on Tuesday as investors digested a legal win for its Mead Johnson unit and a JP Morgan upgrade to overweight. <\/p>\n

The upgrade came in a wider note on European consumer staples published by JP Morgan analyst Celine Pannuti on Tuesday. <\/p>\n

On Monday, a\u00a0US federal jury cleared Mead Johnson, Reckitt Benckiser’s infant nutrition business, of liability in the first federal trial over claims that its Enfamil premature infant formula caused a fatal bowel disorder. <\/p>\n

JPM also placed Heineken, the Dutch brewer, and Unilever, the consumer goods group, on positive “catalyst watch,”\u00a0ahead of upcoming results. <\/p>\n

The bank said it remained cautious on household and hygiene companies, keeping Haleon and Essity at underweight, meaning it expects them to underperform. <\/p>\n

It also stayed on the sidelines for beauty stocks, citing decelerating growth at L’Or\u00e9al, which it rates neutral. <\/p>\n

European staples stocks are trading at 18 times forecast earnings for the next 12 months, a 23% premium to the wider market, below their long-term average premium of around 43%. <\/p>\n

JPM’s estimates for 2027 sit 1% to 2% below consensus, mainly reflecting weaker margins amid higher costs and net financial expenses. <\/p>\n

In the beverages sector, the bank said recent profit-taking in beer stocks looked overdone and expects earnings to keep compounding at a high single-digit rate into 2027. <\/p>\n
