Once operational, the full suite of xStocks will cover tokenised equities tied to assets listed in the US, EU, UK and Hong Kong, plus other asset classes, giving LSE member firms continuous access to global markets from within a regulated setting they already know.

The partnership marks an initial step in a broader effort between the two companies to modernise how UK equities are issued, traded and settled by linking established capital markets with open, blockchain-based infrastructure.

Payward and the London Stock Exchange also plan to look into native LSE-issued equity tokens, which would let London Stock Exchange members issue and manage equity directly onchain while retaining the same rights and full fungibility as conventional shares.

xStocks operate as 1:1 backed tokenised versions of publicly traded shares, mirroring the performance of the underlying stock while adding blockchain-enabled speed, programmability and round-the-clock accessibility. The tokens can be transferred between centralised exchanges, self-custodied wallets and onchain applications, offering holders a level of flexibility not available to shares held in a standard brokerage account.

The framework has expanded rapidly since launch, surpassing $40bn in total trading volume in just over a year, with close to $20bn of that settled onchain across more than 200,000 holders, it said.

Payward co-CEO Arjun Sethi said, “For years the assumption was that crypto and traditional finance were on a collision course, and one of them would have to lose. That was never the real story. The real opportunity is what happens when they run on the same rails. Tokenization hasn’t just widened who can reach a market, it changes how the market itself works, how shares are issued, how they trade, how they settle, and how freely they move once they do. Bringing London-listed companies onchain as xStocks is the start of that, demonstrating how investors can access public markets in new ways.”

LSE plc CEO and LSEG head of digital and securities markets Julia Hoggett said, “Tokenization has the potential to change how investors access, and how issuers use, financial markets, but it must develop in a way that preserves the trust, rights and role of regulated markets. By working with Payward, and continuing to collaborate across the market infrastructure ecosystem, we are exploring how issuers and investors can benefit from new forms of access while maintaining the standards that underpin public markets.”

Read the daily FinTech news

Copyright © 2026 FinTech Global

Investors

The following investor(s) were tagged in this article.

Payward, the developer behind the xStocks tokenised equities framework, has partnered with the London Stock Exchange to advance…

[4
8996,37776,321,25748,47080,11531,5,6,47086
post-115274","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-uk","tag-blockchain","tag-kraken","tag-london-stock-exchange","tag-paytech","tag-payward","tag-tokenisation","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-xstocks
["GET
