Elliot Rowe has his eyes set on the Road World Championships at the end of the month as he enters the Lloyds Tour of Britain fresh from a Commonwealth Games<\/a> debut.<\/p>\n The 20-year-old rider from Banchory was part of the Scottish team pursuit who set a national record by going sub-4:00 for the first time in front of home crowds at Glasgow 2026. Now, he is targeting a return to form on the road with the tour set to finish on home soil in Earlston, as he aims for under-23 success at the World Championships in Canada.<\/p>\n \u201cI really enjoyed myself at Commies, on and off the bike. We didn\u2019t have much time to prepare for it, but we tried to get as much out of it as we could,\u201d said Rowe.<\/p>\n \u201cWe were all hoping for a bit more, but it was a good experience. My season was very much in two halves \u2013 I had the first half building towards Giro d\u2019Italia Next Gen and nationals and then a small break that wasn\u2019t the best timing for Commies. But now I\u2019m looking a lot further ahead to road worlds which suits me better. I\u2019m better on the road than the track.\u201d<\/p>\n Since the Commonwealth Games, Rowe has already been back on the road with the Tour de l\u2019Avenir in France, where he led the virtual general classification for a period on stage six before fading to finish 18th overall by the end.<\/p>\n But it was a gruelling week that should put him in a strong position to be one of Great Britain Cycling Team\u2019s lead riders in their hopes for the overall jersey.<\/p>\n While an outside chance, his arrival over the border into Scotland would prove particularly special in the leader\u2019s jersey, as one of three Scottish riders representing in the Tour of Britain alongside NSN Cycling Team\u2019s Lewis Askey and Modern Adventure Cycling\u2019s Mark Stewart.<\/p>\n \u201cI will have family out watching. It would be nice to try and get stuck in in Earlston and see the family at the finish,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a really strong field so it\u2019s hard to pinpoint a result. There\u2019s a lot of things I can learn riding in the bunch here because it\u2019s a really good level. I can take things away and just see where I\u2019m at physically. I\u2019ll just see what I\u2019ve got compared to these pro guys.\u201d<\/p>\n And when it comes to Commonwealth Games pedigree, the Lloyds Tour of Britain is not short of riders who were tearing up the track at Glasgow 2026. The Isle of Man\u2019s Matt Bostock will ride alongside Rowe in Great Britain colours having won gold in the scratch race in the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in July \u2013 the first for his nation since Mark Cavendish had achieved the feat in 2006.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s hard to say what success from this Tour of Britain would look like off the back of a lot of track. For me, I\u2019d like the younger guys to feel that I was a good teammate and that I really helped them where I could or set them up to get a result,\u201d said the 29-year-old.<\/p>\n Rowe and Bostock will be joined on GBCT by fellow track veteran and Olympic medallist Ollie Wood, as well as youngsters Ben Wiggins, Will Smith and Jacob Bush.
