A TEXTILE art installation in Lichfield will shine a spotlight on challenges faced by those on the Home Front during World War Two.<\/p>\n
The Longest Yarn 2: Britain at War will be on display at Lichfield Cathedral from 1st to 31st May.<\/p>\n
Created by people across the world, the 80-metre hand-crafted artwork captures everyday experiences through knitted scenes of rationing, evacuation, the Blitz and the jubilation of peace.<\/p>\n
The exhibition also includes The Longest Yarn\u2019s life-sized Army of Duty Calls figures, honouring those who served both at home and on the front line.<\/p>\n
Philippa Hubbard, from Lichfield Cathedral, said:<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are honoured to host The Longest Yarn 2: Britain at War and to welcome such a significant national artwork into our cathedral.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe exhibition brings history to life in a way that is both moving and accessible, demonstrating the power of creativity and community in telling shared stories.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Longest Yarn founder Tansy Forster said:<\/p>\n
\u201cThis exhibition builds on the success of our first one, which focused on D-Day.<\/p>\n
\u201cGiven the response from the public we couldn\u2019t wait to create a second exhibition \u2013 so this time we\u2019re delighted to tell the story of Britain at War, which features memories and stories gathered by our volunteer knitters.<\/p>\n
