The National Grid\u2019s Strategic Infrastructure team is working with Method Grid to digitise the processes used to deliver major capital projects across the UK\u2019s transmission network.<\/p>\n

The partnership will create a digital playbook bringing together standards, best-practice processes, controls, and compliance requirements in a single environment, with the aim of making them easier for project teams to find, understand, and apply consistently.<\/p>\n

The initiative comes as National Grid undertakes major investment in the transmission network to support the UK\u2019s future energy needs. While the partnership does not address physical grid-capacity constraints directly, it targets another part of the infrastructure challenge: how complex capital projects are managed and delivered.<\/p>\n

\u00a0National Grid Digitises Project Delivery<\/p>\n

Method Grid is working with National Grid\u2019s Strategic Infrastructure team to create a digital representation of its capital project delivery lifecycle.<\/p>\n

The company\u2019s no-code platform maps elements including project stages, deliverables, activities, controls, stage gates and approvals, while incorporating the templates, guidance, and organisational knowledge needed by project teams.<\/p>\n

For National Grid, the playbook is intended to provide a common environment where employees can identify what is required at different stages of a project and apply established ways of working more consistently.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe scale of infrastructure investment required to transform the UK\u2019s energy system makes effective and consistent project delivery more important than ever,\u201d said Pip Morpeth, CEO of Method Grid.<\/p>\n

He added that the National Grid\u2019s Strategic Infrastructure team is delivering projects that will play a fundamental role in the country\u2019s energy future.<\/p>\n

Consistency and Assurance Sit at the Centre of the Project<\/p>\n

The partnership is intended to address some of the complexity involved in applying standards and controls across major infrastructure programmes.<\/p>\n

By consolidating guidance in one place, Method Grid said project teams should have clearer access to the information they need while also creating stronger evidence that requirements have been followed.<\/p>\n

The stated objectives include improved productivity, more consistent safe and compliant working practices, and stronger governance and assurance.<\/p>\n

That makes the initiative less about introducing another project-management tool and more about making National Grid\u2019s existing processes and knowledge easier to navigate and apply across its Strategic Infrastructure delivery environment.<\/p>\n

Targeting a Different Layer of the Grid Challenge<\/p>\n

The partnership arrives against a wider backdrop of pressure on the UK\u2019s electricity infrastructure, but its role should be distinguished from the physical constraints facing the network.<\/p>\n

Method Grid cannot create transmission capacity or remove the infrastructure requirements involved in expanding the grid.<\/p>\n

Instead, the initiative targets the organisational layer behind that buildout: how teams navigate standards, approvals, controls, and project knowledge while delivering complex capital programmes.<\/p>\n

Bringing those requirements into a common digital environment could reduce some of the process friction created when information and ways of working are difficult to find or apply consistently.<\/p>\n

The companies have not quantified how much time or cost the initiative is expected to save, so it would be premature to suggest that the partnership itself will materially accelerate grid expansion.<\/p>\n

Its more immediate objective is to make the processes surrounding project delivery clearer and more consistent.<\/p>\n

Method Grid Builds on Wider Infrastructure Work<\/p>\n

National Grid is not Method Grid\u2019s first infrastructure-sector project.<\/p>\n

Morpeth pointed to the company\u2019s existing work with SSE Renewables, UK Power Networks, and the STEP fusion programme as part of its focus on complex infrastructure and major programmes.<\/p>\n

\u201cSupporting national infrastructure and major programmes critical to the UK\u2019s energy transition is central to Method Grid\u2019s purpose,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The National Grid partnership extends that work into the Strategic Infrastructure team responsible for delivering major investment in the transmission network.<\/p>\n

As the scale of that investment increases, the initiative puts a spotlight on a less visible part of infrastructure delivery.<\/p>\n

Expanding the grid ultimately depends on physical assets, capacity, and construction. But delivering those projects also depends on the people responsible for them being able to navigate complex standards, controls and approvals consistently.<\/p>\n

For National Grid and Method Grid, the immediate task is focused on that operational layer: making the organisation\u2019s ways of working easier to access, apply and evidence as major capital projects move through delivery.<\/p>\n
