{"id":119125,"date":"2026-09-07T08:14:18","date_gmt":"2026-09-07T08:14:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/119125\/"},"modified":"2026-09-07T08:14:18","modified_gmt":"2026-09-07T08:14:18","slug":"city-of-londons-rolls-royce-limo-converted-to-electric-power-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/119125\/","title":{"rendered":"City of London&#8217;s Rolls-Royce limo converted to electric power"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\tMonday 07 September 2026 7:04 am<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\u00a0|\u00a0\u00a0Updated:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tThursday 03 September 2026 7:16 pm\n\t<\/p>\n<p><img width=\"742\" height=\"495\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/rolls-royce.jpg\" class=\"media \" alt=\"Classic black Rolls-Royce sedan driving on a country road with blurred background foliage and a large tree.\" fetchpriority=\"high\" loading=\"eager\" decoding=\"sync\"  \/>\t\tThe City of London&#8217;s iconic Rolls-Royce limo \u2013 now electric\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The City of London Corporation\u2019s official limousine, a 1973 Rolls-Royce Phantom VI, has been converted into an electric vehicle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Commissioned by Alderwoman Dame Susan Langley DBE, the 697th Lord Mayor of the City of London, the battery-powered limousine is part of a plan to make the Corporation \u2018net zero\u2019 by 2027.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityam.com\/delorean-dmc-12-restomod-fast-forward-to-the-future\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Oxfordshire-based Electrogenic<\/a> was handed the task of re-engineering the Rolls-Royce, having established a leading reputation for its bespoke EV conversions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following its debut at this week\u2019s Salon Prive concours at Blenheim Palace, the Rolls-Royce will continue to carry out official duties around London.<\/p>\n<p>A historic EV conversion<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"640\" width=\"960\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image_5ed4ce.png\" alt=\"Black classic Rolls-Royce parked on a gravel drive in front of a grand, historic stone building.\" class=\"wp-image-2454991\"  \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Only 374 examples of the Phantom VI were built, making these cars a rare but significant part of Rolls-Royce\u2019s history.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Electrogenic conversion saw no part of the Phantom VI\u2019s bodywork cut, drilled or welded. In theory, this means the entire process<a href=\"https:\/\/www.motoringresearch.com\/car-news\/electrogenic-jimmy-carr-aston-martin-db6\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"> could be reversed<\/a>, and the Rolls-Royce returned to its original condition.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Power comes from a 120kW electric motor, which is driven by a 62kWh battery pack mounted where the Phantom\u2019s V8 engine once lived. The Phantom VI is compatible with<a href=\"https:\/\/www.motoringelectric.com\/charging\/slow-fast-rapid-charging-explained\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"> DC fast-charging devices<\/a> of up to 100kW.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A simple column-mounted gear lever replaces the original item for the automatic transmission. Electrogenic has added efficient modern heating for the rear cabin, too.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most importantly, a \u2018Ceremonial\u2019 driving mode reduces motor torque and relaxes throttle response, making the Rolls-Royce<a href=\"https:\/\/www.motoringresearch.com\/car-reviews\/rolls-royce-corniche-henry-2-shooting-brake\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"> easier to drive<\/a> at low speeds for civic processions.<\/p>\n<p>Combining tradition and technology<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"640\" width=\"960\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image_7ed4ca.png\" alt=\"Black vintage luxury car parked on gravel in front of a grand stone building with columns and large windows\" class=\"wp-image-2454993\"  \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Steve Drummond, CEO of Electrogenic, commented: \u201cWe were honoured to be asked to electrify this significant motor car, and to play a part in the City of London Corporation\u2019s journey to net zero.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhen it was launched in the late 1960s, the Rolls-Royce Phantom VI was the most refined and dignified limousine on the road.
