{"id":119570,"date":"2026-09-07T21:38:27","date_gmt":"2026-09-07T21:38:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/119570\/"},"modified":"2026-09-07T21:38:27","modified_gmt":"2026-09-07T21:38:27","slug":"carragher-casts-doubt-on-chelseas-signing-after-london-derby-defeat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/119570\/","title":{"rendered":"Carragher casts doubt on Chelsea&#8217;s signing after London derby defeat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jamie Carragher has voiced concern over Chelsea&#8217;s summer signing, Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, following the Blues&#8217; 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday evening.<\/p>\n<p>Morgan Rogers handed Chelsea the perfect start, lashing the ball into the net from the edge of the penalty area inside the first two minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Kai Havertz then levelled against his former club midway through the first half, beating Martinez at his near post. Martin Odegaard settled it for the Gunners after the break.<\/p>\n<p>The Liverpool legend reckons that while Martinez cost just \u00a37.5 million in a &#8220;wonderful deal&#8221;, the former Aston Villa keeper is past his best.<\/p>\n<p>Analysing Havertz&#8217;s equaliser on Sky Sports, Carragher said: &#8220;I think the goalkeeper would have saved that ball two or three years ago.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He added, as quoted by the English newspaper &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2026\/09\/06\/jamie-carragher-questions-chelsea-signing-arsenal-defeat-29549180\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-affiliate-type=\"NONE\">Metro<\/a>&#8220;: &#8220;What Chelsea did is that it is better for everyone that Robert Sanchez is not in goal because he is not at the required level despite being a good goalkeeper.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:start\">He continued: &#8220;It is not a wrong signing, it was a wonderful deal for \u00a37.5 million, and he is still an excellent goalkeeper, indeed better than Sanchez.
