Jersey Mike\u2019s are known for their Italian-leaning submarine rolls which come filled with sliced meats and cheeses such as provolone, ham, swiss cheese, turkey and cappacuolo, then sloshed with \u2018the juice\u2019: an in-house dressing of\u00a0 red wine vinegar and oil. You can also choose to have your sub \u2018Mike\u2019s Way\u2019 – with onions, lettuce and tomatoes. Subway, who?<\/p>\n

The first branch of Jersey Mike\u2019s was called Mike\u2019s Subs and opened in 1956 in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. Current chairman Peter Cancro started working there when he was 14 years old, and in 1975 when he was 17, he bought the business for $125,000 after borrowing the cash from his high school football coach. He changed the name to Jersey Mike\u2019s in the 1980s.<\/p>\n
