{"id":12986,"date":"2026-04-13T11:25:12","date_gmt":"2026-04-13T11:25:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/12986\/"},"modified":"2026-04-13T11:25:12","modified_gmt":"2026-04-13T11:25:12","slug":"uk-regulators-set-sights-on-anthropics-mythos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/12986\/","title":{"rendered":"UK regulators set sights on Anthropic\u2019s Mythos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>        Financial regulators are the first to move<\/p>\n<p>            <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" src=\".\/media_1c73e1e29559c108a41e42b01e02793d7e842b7c4.jpg?width=750&amp;format=jpg&amp;optimize=medium\" width=\"683\" height=\"512\"\/><\/p>\n<p>British regulators are moving to assess the risks posed by Anthropic\u2019s new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.computing.co.uk\/news\/2026\/ai\/anthropic-unveils-project-glasswing-ai-cybersecurity\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Claude Mythos Preview<\/a> AI model.<\/p>\n<p>Bodies including the Bank of England, Financial Conduct Authority and HM Treasury are in \u201curgent\u201d talks with the National Cyber Security Centre and major banks, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/ec7bb366-9643-47ce-9909-fc5ad4864ae5?syn-25a6b1a6=1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">according<\/a> to the Financial Times, as part of the UK\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cmorg.org.uk\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cross Market Operational Resilience Group<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As well as the BoE, NCSC, FCA and the Treasury, CMORG members include the UK Finance trade body for banks, eight of the UK\u2019s biggest banks, four financial infrastructure providers and two insurers.<\/p>\n<p>Claude Mythos Preview, which is not publicly available, is designed to understand and modify existing software, enabling it to detect vulnerabilities that have gone unnoticed for years.<\/p>\n<p>In testing, the system uncovered flaws that had been overlooked for decades, including a 27-year-old weakness in OpenBSD.<\/p>\n<p>That sounds like a good thing, but the ability to autonomously detect flaws without human involvement is, it goes without saying, ripe for criminal exploitation.<\/p>\n<p>As well as the NCSC, people familiar with the matter told the FT that regulators are talking to representatives from major financial institutions, including banks, insurers and exchanges. They are expected to brief these stakeholders on Claude Mythos Preview\u2019s cyber risks later this month.<\/p>\n<p>British bodies are not alone in their concern.
