Picture: PA<\/p>\n<p>They were a University of Kent student and 18-year-old Juliette Kenny, who was studying for her A-levels at Queen Elizabeth\u2019s in Faversham.<\/p>\n<p>UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) data shows that 87% of cases had attended Club Chemistry in<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kentonline.co.uk\/canterbury\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> Canterbury<\/a> between March 5 and 7 before they became unwell.<\/p>\n<p>Health officials said the outbreak was unusual both in its size and the speed at which it developed.<\/p>\n<p>All infections have been acquired in Kent, with national meningitis levels remaining normal.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rthmb\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=\" http:=\"\" viewbox=\"0 0 4032 2600\" alt=\"Canterbury City Council runs the Park and Ride service\" data-root=\"\/_media\/img\/\" data-path=\"YFTYTWX3P07R24Q12ZDL.jpg\" data-ar=\"1.55\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/YFTYTWX3P07R24Q12ZDL.jpg\" alt=\"Canterbury City Council runs the Park and Ride service\"\/>Canterbury City Council runs the Park and Ride service<\/p>\n<p>The first case to be treated by East Kent Hospitals was at the QEQM Hospital in Margate.<\/p>\n<p>The patient presented as unwell on the evening of Wednesday, March 11. By mid-morning on Thursday, the Trust suspected meningitis.<\/p>\n<p>Health Secretary Wes Streeting said: \u201cThey had 24 hours to notify the UK Health Security Agency.
