OpenAI has marked its expansion in the UK with its first permanent office in London.<\/p>\n

The new office will be at Regent Quarter in King\u2019s Cross London, comprising 88,500 square feet with the capacity for 544 team members.<\/p>\n

Expected to open in 2027, the office represents OpenAI\u2019s continued international expansion.<\/p>\n

The firm also aims to make London its greatest research hub outside of the US, as its expansion in the nation reflects growing demand for AI research and products.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe UK has an incredible depth of talent and a strong track record in AI,\u201d says Phoebe Thacker, global head of data research programmes and London site lead at OpenAI. \u201cLondon is already a key hub for our research and teams, and this new office gives us the space to keep building here.<\/p>\n

This investment reflects our long-term commitment to the UK and the role it can play in shaping how AI is developed safely and used to benefit people all over the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

The commercial office coincides with OpenAI\u2019s many deals with the UK government, from its Memorandum of Understanding for a data residency, to agreements with the Ministry of Justice and its support for UK SMEs to expand their AI skills.<\/p>\n

The office announcement, however, comes hot off the tails of OpenAI dropping its plans to construct a new data centre in the UK, citing high energy costs and regulatory hurdles.<\/p>\n
