{"id":14226,"date":"2026-04-14T16:47:19","date_gmt":"2026-04-14T16:47:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/14226\/"},"modified":"2026-04-14T16:47:19","modified_gmt":"2026-04-14T16:47:19","slug":"farage-in-town-on-flying-visit-to-shetland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/14226\/","title":{"rendered":"Farage in town on flying visit to Shetland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>REFORM leader Nigel Farage has arrived in Shetland as part of a tour around the country as the Scottish elections loom.<\/p>\n<p>He arrived at Sumburgh Airport earlier this morning (Tuesday) from Aberdeen, where Reform held a rally the day prior.<\/p>\n<p>Farage was met with protests from Green representatives when he arrived in Lerwick, including the party\u2019s constituency candidate Alex Armitage.<\/p>\n<p>It is understood his visit to Shetland is a flying one, with his private plane expected to depart later today.<\/p>\n<p>Nigel Farage alongside Reform\u2019s Shetland candidate Vic Currie. Photo: Malcolm Younger<\/p>\n<p>Reform will be represented in the Shetland constituency vote in the Scottish parliament election on 7 May by Vic Currie.<\/p>\n<p>His identity was initially unclear, but it was later confirmed that he was a junior doctor living on the Scottish mainland.<\/p>\n<p>Scottish Parliament election ads3 of 3<\/p>\n<p>Currie <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shetnews.co.uk\/2026\/04\/09\/fishing-takes-centre-stage-industry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">appeared via video link at a recent election hustings event hosted by the fishing industry.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>He is also the number one candidate on Reform\u2019s Highlands and Islands list vote, giving him a potential route to Holyrood.<\/p>\n<p>The voting system used in the regional section aims to give parties who do not succeed in constituencies a better chance at election, and it is predicted that Reform could see some success through this.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>More to follow\u2026<\/p>\n<p>There are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shetnews.co.uk\/category\/features\/scottish-parliament-election-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">seven more candidates contesting the Shetland seat<\/a>.
