Council set to become National Agency for Erasmus+"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following December\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/UKMisBrussels\/status\/2044397414207943147\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">announcement<\/a>\u00a0of the UK rejoining Erasmus+ in 2027,\u00a0today EU and UK policymakers legally formalised the\u00a0deal\u00a0under\u00a0the\u00a0EU-UK\u00a0Trade and Cooperation Agreement.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Alongside welcoming the UK back into the scheme six years after its departure under Brexit, it was announced the British Council would\u00a0become\u00a0the UK\u2019s National Agency for Erasmus+.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>British Council chief executive Scott McDonald said re-entering Erasmus+ would be of \u201cenormous benefit to a range of people from different backgrounds throughout the UK, giving them a global outlook and a whole range of skills of value both to themselves and to the UK\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the National Agency for Erasmus+, the British Council will work closely with the Department for Education, the Devolved Governments and the European Commission to make the most of the opportunities of the program for the UK,\u201d McDonald continued.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He hailed the program\u2019s \u201cproven\u00a0track record\u00a0in changing lives, opening up learning experiences, providing insight into cultures, and nurturing global citizenship\u201d across higher education,\u00a0non-formal schools, vocational\u00a0training\u00a0and sport.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The British Council was a lead partner in the Erasmus+ UK National Agency from 2014-2020 when the program funded over 8,000 projects, engaging\u00a0nearly 600,000\u00a0UK participants and awarding \u20ac1.1 billion to UK organisations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Erasmus+ has a proven track record in changing lives<\/p>\n<p>Scott McDonald, British Council<\/p>\n<p>Sector\u00a0bodies have welcomed news\u00a0of the UK\u2019s reassociation\u00a0and British Council\u2019s\u00a0leading role, urging institutions to work together to \u201cmake the most of\u201d the opportunity.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe announcement provides important clarity\u00a0for program\u00a0delivery\u00a0ahead of UK participation in 2027, supporting\u00a0institutions across higher education, further\u00a0education\u00a0and wider sectors to engage with Erasmus+ opportunities and plan with greater confidence,\u201d said\u00a0Jamie Arrowsmith, director of Universities UK international (UUKi).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He said the British Council\u2019s\u00a0previous\u00a0experience in delivering the last iteration of Erasmus+ would provide a \u201cfoundation for supporting program implementation across all eligible education sectors\u201d and help enable the next phase of mobilisation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Arrowsmith said UUKi looked forward to working with government and European partners to maximise its benefits for students and staff, with the\u00a0association developing an Erasmus+\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.universitiesuk.ac.uk\/topics\/international\/faqs-uks-association-erasmus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">FAQ resource<\/a>\u00a0addressing key questions surrounding the UK\u2019s rejoining.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At an industry event earlier this year, UK universities were told to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thepienews.com\/uk-government-hails-colossal-erasmus-budget-for-2027\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">\u201cthink big\u201d<\/a>\u00a0as they prepare to rejoin the mobility scheme,\u00a0as the government vowed the Erasmus+ of 2027\/28 was \u201cbigger\u201d and \u201cbroader\u201d than the scheme the UK left in 2020, carrying a \u201ccolossal\u201d budget.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, the UK Mission to the EU\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thepienews.com\/uk-government-hails-colossal-erasmus-budget-for-2027\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">welcomed<\/a>\u00a0the\u00a0news of the official rejoining on social media, which it said was: \u201cGood news for students, apprentices, educators and young people across Europe\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"gofollow\" data-track=\"ODY0LDksNjA=\" href=\"https:\/\/www.boundlesslearning.com\/solutions\/learner-lifecycle\/recruitment-and-retention\" target=\"_blank\"
