Anthropic refused to allow its models to be used in mass surveillance and autonomous weapon systems, leading to an ongoing legal battle between the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/anthropic-appeals-court-ruling\/\" class=\"text link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AI lab and the Pentagon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">As part of the expansion, Anthropic says it will deepen its work with the UK\u2019s AI Security Institute, a government body that this week published a <a data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/www.aisi.gov.uk\/blog\/our-evaluation-of-claude-mythos-previews-cyber-capabilities\" class=\"external-link text link\" data-event-click=\"{&quot;element&quot;:&quot;ExternalLink&quot;,&quot;outgoingURL&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/www.aisi.gov.uk\/blog\/our-evaluation-of-claude-mythos-previews-cyber-capabilities&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aisi.gov.uk\/blog\/our-evaluation-of-claude-mythos-previews-cyber-capabilities\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">risk evaluation<\/a> of its latest model, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/anthropics-mythos-will-force-a-cybersecurity-reckoning-just-not-the-one-you-think\/\" class=\"text link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Claude Mythos Preview<\/a>. According to Politico, the UK government is <a data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/anthropic-apple-microsoft-europe-left-in-the-dark-superhacking-ai\/\" class=\"external-link text link\" data-event-click=\"{&quot;element&quot;:&quot;ExternalLink&quot;,&quot;outgoingURL&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/anthropic-apple-microsoft-europe-left-in-the-dark-superhacking-ai\/&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/anthropic-apple-microsoft-europe-left-in-the-dark-superhacking-ai\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">one of few across Europe<\/a> to have been granted access to the model, which Anthropic has released to only select parties, citing concerns over the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/anthropic-mythos-preview-project-glasswing\/\" class=\"text link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">potential for its abuse by cybercriminals<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">The increasing concentration of AI companies in the same London district is an important step in creating a pathway for research to translate into AI products, says Geraint Rees, vice-provost at University College London, whose campus is around the corner from Anthropic\u2019s new office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">\u201cThis cluster didn\u2019t emerge from a planning document. It grew because serious researchers and companies understand that proximity isn\u2019t a nice-to-have,\u201d he said last month, speaking at an event attended by WIRED. \u201cThat\u2019s how the innovation system actually works. It\u2019s not a clean, linear transfer from lab to market.
