Weather forecasting maps suggest dozens of cities across the UK could soon see snow after the Met Office said ‘wintry showers’ were on the cards later this month<\/p>\n

The Met Office says cold spells and \u201cwintry showers\u201d are on the cards in the UK towards the end of April – and now weather<\/a> forecasting maps suggest as many as 38 cities could see some of the white stuff.<\/p>\n

The GFS weather model shows snow<\/a> falling in the UK over a three-day period, starting on April 28. The snow is expected<\/a> to start falling in the north of Scotland<\/a> before flurries drift southward – potentially even reaching London<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Maps show heavy snow<\/a> falling in the north-east of Scotland at around midday on April 28, with lighter flurries in southern Scotland, the Pennines and parts of Northern Ireland. Rain is expected in North Wales and on the east coast of England<\/a> around this time too.<\/p>\n

By 3pm on April 29, maps show snow falling across northern England as well as the east coast in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. Scotland and Northern Ireland could also see some flakes around this time, with rain falling in the far south-east.<\/p>\n

Another band of snow is then tracked to sweep in from the west. By 3am on April 30, maps show western England including cities such as Manchester<\/a> and Birmingham will see the heaviest snow – with flurries stretching as far south as Bristol.<\/p>\n

This band of snow is expected to weaken as it passes across the UK. Although the maps show snow falling in London at around 9am on April 30, they are expected to be significantly weaker than those that fell in the west earlier in the day.<\/p>\n

Throughout this period, sporadic pockets of snow are expected to fall in Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and England. As many as 38 cities in total could be affected by the wintry showers.<\/p>\n

The Met Office<\/a> says \u201cwintry showers\u201d could impact some parts of the UK later in April. A \u201ccold spell\u201d is on the cards – but is expected to be brief.<\/p>\n

The Met Office forecast for April 22 to May 1 states: \u201cHigh pressure is likely to remain centred to the north or northwest of the UK for much of this period amid slowly evolving weather patterns.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis means overall, a fair amount of dry weather is expected though there will likely be some exceptions. Firstly, Atlantic frontal zones may graze over the southwest near the start of this period, bringing some rain and breezy conditions.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe latter part of April may also see cold air sweep south across much or all of the UK for a time, bringing potential for wintry showers in the north and east and more widespread overnight frost.
