Police initially released a statement saying that a woman in her 20s has said she was raped by several men outside Epsom Methodist Church on Ashley Road.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">This caused<a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.getsurrey.co.uk\/news\/surrey-news\/epsom-residents-react-shocking-rape-33786421\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\"> significant concern within the local community<\/a>, as well as online commentary that focused on identifying any suspects.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">On Wednesday (April 15) there was a <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.getsurrey.co.uk\/news\/surrey-news\/epsom-mp-tells-protesters-take-33780550\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">large demonstration in the town<\/a> centre, which blocked the road, causing disruption to motorists. In response, riot police were deployed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Then on Friday (April 17) Assistant Chief Constable for Local Policing, Sarah Grahame said that: &#8220;to date, we have <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.getsurrey.co.uk\/news\/surrey-news\/epsom-rape-police-update-surrey-33786630\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">not found any evidence of the offence <\/a>as reported but the investigation is ongoing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\"><a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.getsurrey.co.uk\/all-about\/surrey-police\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Surrey Police<\/a> has now provided further details about their investigation, stating that: \u201cWe continue to engage with our local communities as we have done over the weekend, with officers remaining in Epsom to provide reassurance and to answer any concerns or questions residents may have.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cOur increased police presence in the town on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings was specifically to address concerns about women\u2019s safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The spokesperson added that the investigation remains ongoing, and has so far included reviewing \u201can extensive amount of CCTV footage from the area, carrying out forensics investigations and conducting house-to-house enquiries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Another demonstration has been planned for Monday afternoon.
