So even if wind, solar and nuclear provide 99% of the power needed, if gas-fired plants are needed to make up the last 1%, then gas sets the ‌price for every buyer and seller.

Gas-fired power plants are the biggest single source of the country’s electricity, and can react quickly to demand, so end up setting the price most of the time.

(Reporting By Susanna Twidale; Editing by Andrew Heavens)

By Susanna Twidale LONDON, April 21 (Reuters) – Britain will launch a package of measures on Tuesday to…

[4
13,7493,8394,3545,2569,5,6
0":"post-18290","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-uk","8":"tag-britain","9":"tag-electricity-prices","10":"tag-energy-transition","11":"tag-fossil-fuels","12":"tag-renewable-power","13":"tag-uk","14":"tag-united-kingdom
["GET
