{"id":18330,"date":"2026-04-21T03:14:17","date_gmt":"2026-04-21T03:14:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/18330\/"},"modified":"2026-04-21T03:14:17","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T03:14:17","slug":"britain-sidelined-in-talks-on-carney-backed-defense-bank-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/18330\/","title":{"rendered":"Britain sidelined in talks on Carney-backed defense bank \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Labour MPs and defense industry representatives have warned that London risks missing out on yet another opportunity to finance the armed forces, having failed to join the EU&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/pro.politico.eu\/bills\/738447\/overview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Security Action for Europe (SAFE) program<\/a> last year.<\/p>\n<p>The DSRB was conceived by former head of NATO innovation, Rob Murray, and has been backed by Canadian PM Mark Carney. The initiative aims to create a multilateral AAA-rated bank that can provide loans to allied governments and allow countries to borrow directly from the institution at a lower cost.<\/p>\n<p>Carney has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/mark-carney-lobbies-keir-starmer-over-defense-bank\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">lobbied Starmer repeatedly<\/a> to have Britain join the bank.
