CornwallLive readers have heard that travellers in Cornwall will soon be able to fly from Newquay to London Gatwick<\/a> again, with easyJet launching a twice-weekly service on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 23rd June. Fares start at \u00a330.99.<\/p>\n Cornwall Airport Newquay<\/a> said the new route offers an affordable, convenient link for visitors during the busy summer season. Passengers can reach London in just over an hour or connect to destinations across Europe.<\/p>\n The announcement has been welcomed by travellers, though some questioned the limited schedule and whether the service would run year-round. The airport confirmed it is a summer service to meet seasonal demand, with winter options under review.<\/p>\n The new flights follow Cornwall Council<\/a>\u2019s decision to end daily Skybus services, previously funded by it and the council and Department for Transport, to reduce taxpayer costs. Skybus will stop operating on 31st May.<\/p>\n Noah Law<\/a>, MP for St Austell<\/a> and Newquay<\/a>, said he is pleased easyJet will continue the route and supports further all-year-round development. Bookings and more details are on the easyJet website.<\/a><\/p>\n Commenter Dis1954 says: \u201cI doubt this is accurate. Gatwick isn\u2019t exactly near the capital; it\u2019s in Sussex. To get to London, you\u2019d need a train costing at least \u00a323. With current prices, actual flight costs are likely three to four times what\u2019s being quoted, if the flights even happen.\u201d<\/p>\n RickOshay replies: \u201cLondon Gatwick is the international name for the airport, many who use this new service will connect at Gatwick to flights overseas, it\u2019s not just for those wanting to visit London. Unfortunately it’s a bad time to launch it in the light of Trump wrecking the world economy.\u201d<\/p>\n DukeofCornwall adds: \u201cGatwick has an excellent connection to both London Bridge and Victoria.\u201d<\/p>\n Marky D agrees: \u201cI doubt this route is aimed at London visitors. It is more likely a feeder for other Gatwick connections. Unlike Skybus, which dedicates aircraft to a single route, EasyJet maximises plane usage because no aircraft earns money while on the ground. If a gap appears in their schedule, they find a route to fill it. Do not expect long-term loyalty; schedules change yearly, and if the slot is more profitable elsewhere, Newquay could lose flights or see altered days and times.\u201d<\/p>\n Pauline C says: \u201cLondon Gatwick is just a quick train into the city or a connection for another flight. EasyJet does not operate from Heathrow or City. If the route proves popular, they might offer more flights year round. Use it or lose it.\u201d<\/p>\n Commonsense01 wonders: \u201cHow much are Cornwall taxpayers subsidising EasyJet to discount this route? Passenger charges of \u00a327 and runway fees of \u00a32160 per flight cannot be covered by \u00a330 tickets. The airport already costs taxpayers over \u00a38M a year, while school buses are cancelled, potholes worsen, and 800 families are homeless.\u201d<\/p>\n Richyrich69 is happy: \u201cWell done Newquay Airport and well done Cornwall Council for supporting this.\u201d<\/p>\n Chuffchough disagrees: \u201cWhat a poor service for business, which is where real repeat revenue comes from. Who in their right mind would travel up on a Tuesday and return on Saturday, or go up on Saturday and return on Tuesday? It is a shame to see Skybus lose the route; their frequent service will be greatly missed.\u201d<\/p>\n Kernowthehut adds: \u201cAny flights to London have to be welcomed but these are not going to help business. Skybus was a great local operator. What happened to the city airport flights that the council promised when they cut the Skybus flights?\u201d<\/p>\n Baggyboatee is in favour: \u201cThat is brilliant.
