The U.K.\u2019s current foreign secretary was keen to remind MPs she wasn\u2019t running the Foreign Office when the seeds of the Mandelson saga were sown.<\/p>\n
Asked about the Doyle revelation in the House of Commons Tuesday, Cooper said: \u201cObviously, I was the home secretary at the time that I understand that took place, so I was not involved and do not know the circumstances.\u201d <\/p>\n
Robbins told MPs earlier Tuesday that he was \u201cunder strict instruction\u201d from No. 10 not to discuss the possibility of Doyle\u2019s posting with Lammy, something Cooper said she was \u201cextremely concerned\u201d about.<\/p>\n
For good measure, she added Doyle would \u201cnot have been an appropriate appointment.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

There are few ministers closer to Starmer than Jones, but it appears even the PM\u2019s chief secretary has his limits. <\/p>\n
During an interview with POLITICO\u2019s Anne McElvoy, Jones pleaded ignorance when quizzed over accusations from Robbins that there had been a culture of fear inside Downing Street around Mandelson\u2019s appointment.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u201cI wasn\u2019t in the building at the time, so I can\u2019t speak to it contemporaneously,\u201d Jones said Tuesday at the Good Growth Foundation\u2019s National Growth Debate. <\/p>\n
