{"id":19938,"date":"2026-04-23T00:28:15","date_gmt":"2026-04-23T00:28:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/19938\/"},"modified":"2026-04-23T00:28:15","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T00:28:15","slug":"london-local-elections-2026-who-will-win-in-bexley","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/19938\/","title":{"rendered":"London local elections 2026: Who will win in Bexley?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\tThursday 23 April 2026 1:01 am<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\u00a0|\u00a0\u00a0Updated:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tWednesday 22 April 2026 3:21 pm\n\t<\/p>\n<p><img width=\"742\" height=\"495\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/london-voting-12.jpg\" class=\"media \" alt=\"Voters in London cast ballots during a local election, showcasing civic engagement and democratic participation in the city.\" fetchpriority=\"high\" loading=\"eager\" decoding=\"sync\"  \/>\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>What has traditionally been a back and forth between Conservatives and Labour, for the forthcoming local elections Bexley is being viewed as Reform\u2019s top shot at cracking London.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, Bexley had a 5.2 per cent swing from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityam.com\/pet-projects-tories-slam-pension-mandation-powers-as-labour-refuse-to-back-down\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Conservative<\/a> to Labour but the Tories still managed to hold onto 33 seats, while Labour gained just one to sit at 12 seats.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, Labour has retained a seat in a by-election and three Tories have turned independent.<\/p>\n<p>Geographically, the firm sits on the border of Kent \u2013 an area where last year Reform scooped up almost everything.<\/p>\n<p>The Tories have run the council since 2006 but a Reform reckoning threatens upheaval for that.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\t\tReform\u2019s \u2018real chance\u2019 at Bexley<\/p>\n<p>Nigel Farage has said his party stands a \u201creal chance\u201d of turning Bexley a different shade of blue, though it\u2019s an area the Greens and Liberal Democrats are also making a play for.<\/p>\n<p>Reform candidate Mike Jones said his party\u2019s ethos in local government was about \u201csaving money where we can\u201d. Yet it may be a pledge that could face scrutiny on the road to voting day after Reform raised council tax in Kent after previously pledging not to.<\/p>\n<p>Back in 2014, when Farage was leading the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityam.com\/ukip-targets-mapped-are-you-one-people-whose-votes-nigel-farage-needs-win\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">UKIP<\/a> party, they won three seats in the borough.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The council\u2019s former leader Baroness O\u2019Neill will not be standing for re-election after standing down from leadership in November.
