UK weather maps reveal that up to 30 counties could be hit by snow<\/a> soon as the Met Office<\/a> warns of a “more changeable or unsettled spell of weather<\/a>“.<\/p>\n

The latest maps from WXCharts<\/a>, which uses data from MetDesk, suggest that between May 6 (Wednesday) and May 8 (Friday) parts of Scotland<\/a>, northern England<\/a> and Wales<\/a> could see snow showers or a light dusting of snow.<\/p>\n

The cooler, more wintry snap is expected to follow a run of largely dry conditions driven by high pressure, bringing a mix of sunshine and cloud through late April and into early May, according to the Met Office.<\/p>\n

WXCharts maps shows bands of heavy rain sweeping across much of the country around midday on Wednesday, May 6. However, purple shading – indicating snow – suggests parts of Scotland<\/a>, particularly on higher ground, along with some areas of Northern England, especially the Pennines, could see snowfall as temperatures dip.<\/p>\n

By the evening of May 6, the worst of the wet weather is expected to clear, leaving scattered showers in western parts of the country. However, the Grampians and Snowdonia could still see some snow by around 9pm.<\/p>\n

Into the morning of May 7, a light dusting is indicated over the Grampians – with some snow lingering into May 8 – alongside parts of southern Scotland.<\/p>\n

In its long-range forecast from Thursday, May 7, to Thursday, May 21, the Met Office says: “A generally more changeable or unsettled spell of weather compared to the previous couple of weeks.<\/p>\n

“This comes about as Atlantic low pressure systems move towards the UK, increasing the chance of periods of heavy rain and perhaps strong winds at times.<\/p>\n

“Towards the middle of the month, weather patterns become increasingly uncertain; however, the wettest and windiest conditions seem most likely to be in the northwest, with the drier and more settled conditions in the southeast.
