Man taken to hospital after being hit by ‘object’ outside pub<\/p>\n

Business owners on Beeston’s main shopping street have missed out on trade on their “busiest day” as their premises were cordoned off by the police after an assault.<\/p>\n

Officers were called to High Road<\/a> at around 12.40am on Saturday, April 25, to reports a man had been struck with an object <\/a>outside The Jesse Boot pub.<\/p>\n

Although the man was taken to the hospital to receive treatment for his injuries, these are not believed to be life-altering.<\/p>\n

Officers were still looking to track down the other person involved in the incident when a police cordon set up in the area of the incident came down early on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n

The large cordon was set up while investigators were carrying out their inquiries and remained in place until gone midday on Saturday.<\/p>\n

This meant businesses inside it, including Ezee vape shop, Cafe 94, Hing Kee bubble tea shop, Washoku sushi shop and Iguazu, missed out on trade for a few hours.<\/p>\n

Ian and Lilliana, of Iguazu, a gift shop that was located inside the cordon, said: “Saturday is our busiest day and we were due to open at 9am, so we\u2019ve probably lost out on about \u00a31,000.<\/p>\n

“The cordon was up when we got here. Especially on a lovely, sunny day like this, people will want to go shopping.<\/p>\n

“But some people will now decide not to come out because they\u2019ve seen what\u2019s happened.<\/p>\n

“There’s nothing the police<\/a> can do. They have to do their job.”<\/p>\n

The owner of Hing Kee, a bubble tea shop right in the centre of the cordon, said he too came to the shop at 9am, to prep for his usual Saturday 11.30am opening.<\/p>\n

However, due to the cordon, he could not get into the building until around 12.30pm. “I\u2019ve lost out on about an hour-and-a-half of business,” he said.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s okay. I\u2019m just glad the person isn\u2019t seriously injured.”<\/p>\n

The owner of Ezee Shop, who wished not to be named, added: “What can you do? I was meant to open at 9am, it is all right. I\u2019ve probably not lost out on too much business.”<\/p>\n

Police are asking anyone who has information about the attack to contact them.<\/p>\n

Detective Inspector Ian Holmes said: “We\u2019re keen to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of High Road, Beeston, just after midnight.<\/p>\n

“This assault took place right outside a pub on the road, with a man requiring hospital treatment as a direct result.<\/p>\n

“If you saw what happened or think you might have any information that could assist our inquiries, please get in touch immediately.<\/p>\n
