LONDON, April 29 (Reuters) – Prime Minister \u200bKeir Starmer said on Wednesday that Britain’s \u200cbiggest company AstraZeneca (AZN.L), opens new tab<\/a> would invest 300 million pounds ($405 million) in the country, after pausing, opens new tab<\/a> large-scale projects last year.<\/p>\n

“I can \u200bannounce a significant new investment by AstraZeneca, \u200binvesting 300 million pounds in UK life sciences, \u2060made possible by the pharmaceutical arrangement we have \u200bstruck with the United States,” Starmer told lawmakers in \u200bparliament.<\/p>\n

The investment comes after drugmakers, including AstraZeneca, have praised the U.S.-UK deal, which is aimed at increasing medicine prices \u200bin Britain, in line with the Trump \u200badministration’s new U.S. pricing policies.<\/p>\n

Companies, including AstraZeneca, say Europe risks \u200cmissing \u2060out on new medicines in the new policy environment, known as most-favored-nations.<\/p>\n

AstraZeneca had pulled back projects in Britain, citing the business environment, including a \u200b200-million-pound investment \u200bplan in \u2060Cambridge where it has one of the country’s leading life sciences hubs. \u200bIt had earlier scrapped a proposed 450-million-pound in a vaccine \u200bmanufacturing \u2060plant in northern England after a cut in government support.<\/p>\n

Starmer said the latest investment would future \u2060proof \u200b1,000 jobs in the northern \u200bEnglish town of Macclesfield and in Cambridge.<\/p>\n
