interior for Cafe Kowloon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Utilitarian surfaces are contrasted with glossy finishes and splashes of red and green inside Cafe Kowloon, a modern Cantonese <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/restaurants\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">restaurant<\/a> in east <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/london\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">London<\/a> designed by local studio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/daytrip\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Daytrip<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Set beneath a railway arch in London Fields, guests enter <a href=\"https:\/\/cafekowloon.co.uk\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cafe Kowloon<\/a> via the restaurant&#8217;s daytime wonton noodle bar, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/wontoncharlies\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wonton Charlie&#8217;s<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Designed by <a href=\"https:\/\/daytrip.studio\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Daytrip<\/a> in collaboration with restaurant group <a href=\"https:\/\/www.6of1.co.uk\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">6 of 1<\/a>, the two spaces were intended to represent the more traditional and contemporary sides of Hong Kong&#8217;s food culture.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2320840 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/cafe-kowloon-restaurant-daytrip-london-interiors_dezeen_2364_col_8-852x1065.jpg\" alt=\"Cafe Kowloon restaurant Daytrip from street\" width=\"1891\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>Cafe Kowloon is a Cantonese restaurant in east London designed by Daytrip and 6 of 1<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We were not interested in pastiche, but in capturing the spirit of Hong Kong&#8217;s<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cha_chaan_teng\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> cha chaan teng<\/a> culture and reinterpreting it through a contemporary London lens,&#8221; Daytrip co-founder Iwan Halstead told Dezeen.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The space needed to feel intimate, atmospheric and slightly cinematic \u2013 a venue that is inherently social, energetic and fun,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We wanted to embrace a lo-fi materiality and sense of street life through the layering of finishes, reflective surfaces and moments of visual intensity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2320843\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/cafe-kowloon-restaurant-daytrip-london-interiors_dezeen_2364_col_14-852x1065.jpg\" alt=\"Cafe Kowloon restaurant Daytrip \" width=\"1891\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>Utilitarian surfaces are paired with glossy finishes and splashes of red and green<\/p>\n<p>Responding to the industrial character of the site, pale corrugated surfaces line the walls and ceilings of the railway arches.<\/p>\n<p>Positioned on a raised platform, ten wooden barstools with red seats are tucked beneath a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/stainless-steel\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">stainless steel<\/a> counter overlooking the restaurant&#8217;s open kitchen.<\/p>\n<p>The more industrial materials are offset with rich glossy brown mosaic tiles, wood panelling and bright green fibreglass shelving suspended from the arched ceiling.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2320844\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/cafe-kowloon-restaurant-daytrip-london-interiors_dezeen_2364_col_5-852x568.jpg\" alt=\"Cafe Kowloon restaurant Daytrip curved banquette seating\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1577\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>Curved cherry timber banquettes provide seating in the main dining space<\/p>\n<p>In the restaurant&#8217;s main dining space, glossy red tables with built-in lazy Susans catch and reflect light, adding contrast to the interior.<\/p>\n<p>Curved cherry timber banquettes with leather upholstery wrap around the tables to provide a variety of seating for both small and large groups within the relatively tight footprint.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2024\/11\/22\/maths-bao-city-restaurant-london\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/bao-city-london-by-maths_dezeen_2364_col_sq1-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"BAO City restaurant with sculptural lights\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p> Maths designs wood-panelled BAO City restaurant with &#8220;moody cinematic feel&#8221;\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The furniture plays an important role in softening the more industrial aspects of the space,&#8221; said Halstead.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The banquettes, in particular, were designed to introduce warmth and comfort, using timber frames and aged caramel leather upholstery to create a more tactile, human layer within the interior.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2320848\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/cafe-kowloon-restaurant-daytrip-london-interiors_dezeen_2364_col_1-852x1065.jpg\" alt=\"Cafe Kowloon restaurant Daytrip round table\" width=\"1891\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>High-gloss red tables catch and reflect light<\/p>\n<p>Illuminated by a large neon sign, the same bright green grating used for the kitchen shelves also lines the wall behind the bar in the main dining area.
