{"id":25878,"date":"2026-04-30T15:54:29","date_gmt":"2026-04-30T15:54:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/25878\/"},"modified":"2026-04-30T15:54:29","modified_gmt":"2026-04-30T15:54:29","slug":"fca-being-reform-minded-regulator-will-ensure-uk-remains-competitive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/25878\/","title":{"rendered":"FCA: Being \u2018reform-minded regulator\u2019 will ensure UK remains competitive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Global clients trust the UK in times of geopolitical stress, claimed the Financial Conduct Authority\u2019s boss in a speech today (April 30). <\/p>\n<p>The FCA chief executive officer Nikhil Rathi, reflected on the current state of markets at an Association of Foreign Banks luncheon at Mansion House. <\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cIn times of operational and geopolitical stress, global clients trust the UK.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey know ours is a system proven under pressure, with the reliable execution, deep liquidity, and resilient infrastructure they need to do business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>            Recommended<br \/>\n            <a class=\"recommended-article-link\" data-trackable=\"recommended-article\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ftadviser.com\/content\/1ba6b871-d6a5-4ea0-b75d-89d9ea899fdc\" data-articleid=\"1ba6b871-d6a5-4ea0-b75d-89d9ea899fdc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p>                        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/cf187e90-66e0-4501-b270-689320337b2d.png\" width=\"290px\" height=\"290px\" alt=\"Recommended article's image\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Firms can use adviser survey to identify growth opportunities, says FCA<\/p>\n<p>            <\/a><\/p>\n<p>He said the 160 foreign banks in London are \u201ccentral to that success\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Rathi described the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ftadviser.com\/financial-conduct-authority-uk\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">FCA<\/a> as a \u201creform-minded regulator\u201d that is willing to change. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor regulation to keep pace, we have to remain clear about our standards, but more flexible in how they are applied,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>He announced new guidance, published today (April 30) which outlines how firms can use distributed ledger technology within its existing rules.<\/p>\n<p>The regulator said this will make it easier for asset managers to unlock the benefits of fund tokenisation. <\/p>\n<p>Rathi said tackling financial crime is a priority for the regulator and said it would be stepping up action on market abuse and insider trading. <\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cThe FCA\u2019s primary task is to ensure market integrity. In a more volatile global environment, that only becomes more important.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo fighting financial crime is a priority for us and we are increasingly hawkish.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Closing his speech, Rathi said the FCA will remain clear on its standards and \u201crigorous in how we uphold them\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cBut also open \u2014 working with the market, willing to make changes where needed, reform-minded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s what will allow you to manage risk, deploy capital and serve clients even in uncertain times.
