An ‘avoid the area’ warning is in place on the M60 with the motorway to remain closed into the evening following a fatal tragedy on Tuesday (March 31).<\/p>\n
A man died after falling from Barton Bridge over the anti-clockwise carriageway. Officers and paramedics were called to the carriageway between J12 and J10 following a concern for welfare report.<\/p>\n
The motorway was closed off throughout the day. It was later confirmed that a man had fallen from height and was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident.<\/p>\n

Greater Manchester Police<\/a> urged motorists to avoid the area with the closure expected to remain in place for a number of hours and into the evening.<\/p>\n A force statement read: “Earlier today, officers responded to a concern for welfare on Barton<\/a> Bridge on the M60<\/a>. The man sadly fell from the bridge and passed away at the scene.<\/p>\n “The road remains closed while enquiries continue. Please avoid the area and plan alternative routes where possible as disruption is likely to continue for the rest of the day.”<\/p>\n Officers were first called to the scene at around 11.45am on Tuesday. Pictures showed a heavy emergency services presence at the scene including multiple ambulances and police vehicles as all traffic was held before diversions were put in place.<\/p>\n
