{"id":27664,"date":"2026-05-03T12:25:13","date_gmt":"2026-05-03T12:25:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/27664\/"},"modified":"2026-05-03T12:25:13","modified_gmt":"2026-05-03T12:25:13","slug":"a-11000000-mega-city-opening-40-minutes-from-london-hailed-pinnacle-of-regeneration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/27664\/","title":{"rendered":"A \u00a311,000,000 Mega City opening 40 minutes from London hailed &#8216;pinnacle of regeneration&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" width=\"646\" height=\"431\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/GettyImages-1487878493.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-28209195\" alt=\"Aerial view flying over rows of townhouses in Slough, Berkshire.\" decoding=\"sync\"\/><br \/>\n\t\tA new \u2018Mega City\u2019 is opening 40 minutes away from London, in Berkshire (Picture: Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>More than 100 arcade machines, a giant laser tag arena, and enough karaoke rooms to sink a ship are just some of the features inside a brand-new \u2018<a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2026\/03\/31\/quaint-city-named-uks-top-commuter-location-2026-27782171\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"27782171\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Mega City<\/a>\u2019 opening in the UK later this month.<\/p>\n<p>The complex, conveniently called \u2018<a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2026\/04\/13\/uk-getting-a-brand-new-garden-town-10-000-new-homes-27911106\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"27911106\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Mega City<\/a>,\u2019 is just 40 minutes from Central London on the <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/elizabeth-line\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Elizabeth Line<\/a>, tucked away in Slough, <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/berkshire\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Berkshire<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been touted as the \u2018pinnacle\u2019 of the town\u2019s \u2018<a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2026\/04\/02\/city-within-a-city-built-next-uks-second-largest-shopping-centre-27822394\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"27822394\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">regeneration<\/a>,\u2019 and, throwing open its doors on May 30, it\u2019s hoping to bring more footfall to the centre.<\/p>\n<p>The playground, which measures 55,000 square feet, has an impressive three floors and two mezzanine levels, packed out with crowd-pleasing entertainment factors designed not just for kids, but for adults, too.<\/p>\n<p>And, forming an \u00a311,000,000 investment, it doesn\u2019t skimp on the fun.<\/p>\n<p>Where will the new Mega City be?<\/p>\n<p>Perfectly situated for a day trip from London, the new Mega City is an eight-minute walk from the Elizabeth Line station, at 233\/249 High Street.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019ll be late-night hours throughout the week, feeding into the vision that Mega City isn\u2019t just a family-friendly destination, but one that\u2019s also suitable for date nights, catch-ups with friends, and even work socials.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"363\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/SEI_295552983-5e9e.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-28209714\" alt=\"Plans for Slough's new Mega City.\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><br \/>\n\t\tThe entertainment complex cost \u00a311,000,000 (Picture: Mega City)<\/p>\n<p>On Fridays and Saturdays, the entertainment complex will be open between 10am and 2.30am, while the rest of the week, it\u2019ll operate between 10am and 1.30am. Thursday is the new Friday, right?<\/p>\n<p>What features will Mega City have?<\/p>\n<p>Already channelling your inner child at the mere thought? Mega City will have the following activities:<\/p>\n<p>A giant arcade with 130 machines<\/p>\n<p>10 bowling lanes<\/p>\n<p>A laser tag arena accommodating up to 24 players<\/p>\n<p>Laser raid and laser maze challenges<\/p>\n<p>Battling cages<\/p>\n<p>Clay pigeon shooting (augmented reality)<\/p>\n<p>Darts (also augmented reality)<\/p>\n<p>Karaoke and private party rooms<\/p>\n<p>Pool tables<\/p>\n<p>Flashpads<\/p>\n<p>Total Football<\/p>\n<p>A restaurant and bar area, serving up dishes including Detroit-style pizzas, loaded fries, and <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2026\/05\/02\/100-000-free-pints-grabs-this-bank-holiday-just-need-password-28205531\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"28205531\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">cocktails<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"363\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/SEI_295552986-42a8.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-28209715\" alt=\"Plans for Slough's new Mega City.\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><br \/>\n\t\tThere\u2019ll be food and late-night drinks served (Picture: Mega City)<br \/>\nHow does payment work at Mega City?<\/p>\n<p>While no detail has been given on prices just yet, the payment system inside Slough\u2019s Mega City is fully cashless, and it\u2019s designed to allow gamers to flit between activities as quickly as possible. <\/p>\n<p>To join in on the fun, you\u2019ll need to purchase credit inside the venue using the kiosks, where you\u2019ll be given a play card. It\u2019s compatible with all the machines inside, and can be tapped against each one to authorise use.<\/p>\n<p>The card will also automatically track any points you rack up against your competitors, so once you\u2019ve finished your session, you can redeem your rightful prizes. Elsewhere, if you\u2019ve booked online for group activities, like bowling or laser tag, you\u2019ll be given a QR code. Even some locals don\u2019t feel proud of it.<\/p>\n<p>In <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/12\/05\/armpit-berkshire-named-uks-miserable-place-live-yet-22126780\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">December 2024<\/a>, it was named the UK\u2019s most miserable place to live by property website Rightmove, which asked people across the country how they felt about their area, including how proud they felt to live there, whether they felt a sense of belonging, and whether they earned enough.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"363\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/SEI_295552975-7329.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-28209717\" alt=\"Plans for Slough's new Mega City.\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><br \/>\n\t\t\u2026and there\u2019ll be prizes galore (Picture: Mega City)<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the good people of Slough weren\u2019t too impressed with their humble abode, which has previously been nicknamed an \u2018<a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/09\/04\/town-dubbed-island-despair-named-a-first-time-buyer-hotspot-21546001\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">island of despair<\/a>\u2019 and \u2018North Windsor\u2019 in reference to its much brighter, happier sibling.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s true: Slough famously featured as David Brent\u2019s hometown in The Office.
