The Prince of Wales<\/a> is one of the biggest taxpayers in the country, a new report has revealed.<\/p>\n

Prince William<\/a> , 43, pays up to \u00a37 million in income tax<\/a> a year, according to the Sunday Times.<\/p>\n

This puts the heir to the throne<\/a> in the top 0.002 per cent of British taxpayers.<\/p>\n

Most of William\u2019s income comes from the \u00a320 million or more he received from the Duchy of Cornwall, a land estate valued at more than \u00a31 billion.<\/p>\n

The estate has been inherited by every heir to the English, then British, crown since the 14th century.<\/p>\n

It is understood the prince pays the highest marginal rate of tax, 45 per cent, on his personal earnings.<\/p>\n

However, he has no legal obligation to do so due to an agreement made between the Treasury and the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2013.<\/p>\n

The Duchy of Cornwall is made up of around 3,000 properties in 23 counties in England and Wales and covers around 130,000 to 140,000 acres of land.<\/p>\n

It includes, cottages, shops, commercial buildings and coastal rights.<\/p>\n

The Sunday Times reports that William can deduct official expenditure from the duchy income before calculating his tax bill.<\/p>\n
