A 14-year-old girl has died after an incident on train tracks in County Durham<\/a>. British Transport Police were called to a casualty on the tracks in the Shildon area on Wednesday, April 22 along with the Great North Air Ambulance Service and North East Ambulance Service.<\/p>\n A schoolgirl was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle<\/a> in a critical condition. The teen, who was a pupil at Greenfield Academy in Newton Aycliffe, died in hospital on Saturday night (May 2), British Transport Police has confirmed.<\/p>\n A spokesperson for BTP said: “Tragically, the girl \u2013 who we are not naming in accordance with her family’s wishes \u2013 passed away in hospital on the evening of Saturday 2 May. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.<\/p>\n “Specially trained officers are supporting her family, who have expressed their sincerest thanks to everyone who has reached out to them.
